Les Ambassadeurs was built in 1810 on the site of one of King Henry VIII's hunting lodges. Leopold de Rothschild bought it in 1878 or thereabouts and he drastically remodelled the house to suite his extravagant tastes. Rothschild commissioned the famous wood carver, Chevalier Rinaldo Barbetti, to create the magnificent library and staircase. Through a series of subsequent transfers, the house ultimately transformed into the premier private Casino Club of today.
