Where do I sit?

Tanya is one of the performers in the show, she is a poet, women's activist and all round queen!
Tanya used poetry to reinvent audio descriptions and work as the ultimate hype woman in the show.
Do you find it easy or difficult to audio describe yourself? give it a go in the comments below! (bonus points for poetry)

Where do I sit?

Our work represents disabled people and people from marginalised backgrounds. We believe it's important for these groups to have a voice in all aspects of the making process and we couldn't have had more fun talking, designing, and playing throughout the process of making Where Do I Sit?

Where do I sit?

Quick pic just before we went on stage to perform our show; Where Do I Sit? Lots of excitement, a few nerves but nothing a shimmy and a shake in our fantastic costumes couldn't flutter away.
Together our costumes represent the Disability Pride Flag, the Suffragettes Flag, and use the Zimbabwe Chevron pattern. These are the three main influences and inspirations throughout this project and it seemed a fitting tribute to make sure they were all displayed in full glitter and ruffle on stage.

Now where can we wear these again? You can spot them in our new short documentary here: https://youtu.be/va8XyiL1KFY

From left to right, Caro is a white woman with dyed red hair wearing a purple button down shirt, ruffle rara skirt in shades of purple, black and white chevron pattern tights. Tanya is a black woman wearing a red silky and glittery jump suit with matching head band and black and white ruffled sleeves. Amy is a slim white woman wearing a one shoulder turquoise leotard with ruffle detail on her hips and shoulder, matching head band and black and white chevron leggings. Karina is a white woman wearing a black and white chevron leotard with turquoise ruffles on her hips and matching head band, yellow tights and a floor length white glitter cape.

Where do I sit?

What a wonderful day. We performed 'Where do I sit?' for over 30 audience members who traveled from L'Arche Zimbabwe, a wonderful disability provision. Having Make Space Circus, Tamba Africa and L'Arche Zimbabwe all together to watch the show, have a go at flying themselves, dance together and share a meal has to be one of the many highlights from the trip.

Where do I sit?

We were lucky enough to have the absolute rigging wizz that is Barnz from Pirates of the Carabina with us in Zimbabwe. He ran an amazing accessible rigging workshop with the Tamba artists and some of the wider disabled artist community in Zimbabwe. Everyone had a go at lifting each other and we tested some really creative

Where do I sit?

During rehearsals for the show, we also ran some skill exchange. We paired up and audio described each other, we wrote poetry, shared the challenges and barriers we face, designed rigging and much more. We've come away with a huge colourful diary having used multi coloured pens on huge pieces of paper to document every step of the way.

A short documentary about the project is out now! Watch it here: https://youtu.be/va8XyiL1KFY

Image: A group of 6 black, white and asian people. The Make Space Circus and Tamba team sat on the red mat of the gymnastics gym with large white sheets of paper and colour pens around ready to write down ideas. Everyone is smiling towards the camera and Dee, a young black woman sat in the middle is posing with both arms up in a strong woman pose.

Where do I sit?

What's more exciting than hanging upside down on an aerial hoop? Hanging upside down on an LED light up aerial hoop of course! Loving this jazzy piece of kit at the moment. Especially when the lights are low in a performance space having thing that light up are so helpful for visually impaired people.
