The Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours open call is NOW OPEN!

The RI seeks the best in contemporary watercolour and water-based media painting for the RI 215th Exhibition!

Alongside the work of its elected members, leading figures in contemporary watercolour and water-based media, the RI welcomes both emerging and established artists who push the boundaries of the medium through traditional and experimental approaches.

🏆 There are over £10,000 worth of prizes and awards on offer, including the NEW Winsor & Newton of £3,000!

🎨 Acceptable media: Watercolour or water-soluble mediums including watercolour, watercolour pencil, acrylic, ink or gouache (excluding water-soluble oils) on any appropriate support.

Could your work be part of this year’s exhibition? Enter the open call for your chance to exhibit alongside some of the UK’s leading oil painters!

🏆 Prizes and awards worth over £10,000, including the Roger Re*****on Award of £4,000 awarded to an outstanding painting, and three Winsor & Newton awards awarded to young artists!

Acceptable media: Oils. The ROI promotes and exhibits work of the highest standard in oil paint. Water-mixable oil paint is acceptable if framed as an oil, so as not to spoil the general appearance of the exhibition.

🚨 There are less than 24 HOURS left to submit your work to the Royal Institute of Oil Painters open call!

Artists are invited to submit work for exhibition alongside members of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters at the ROI Annual Exhibition 2026!

🏆 Prizes and awards worth over £10,000, including the Roger Re*****on Award of £4,000!

🎨 The ROI welcomes submissions on all subjects and approaches to this wonderful medium, from plein air, landscape and still life to portraiture and abstract. There is no limit except the common denominator that the work must be created in oil!

Eligibility:
• Any artist over 18 may submit.
• Acceptable media: Oils. The ROI promotes and exhibits work of the highest standard in oil paint.
• Artists may submit work on any subject matter. There is a special theme each year, which can be interpreted widely. For 2026, artists are encouraged to contribute a work on the theme 'Winter Rituals' - however it is not compulsory.
• Artists may enter a maximum of six works each, from which up to three works per artist may be selected.
• Artists must submit work that has been completed within the last three years and must not have been previously exhibited at Mall Galleries.

🏆 Prizes and awards worth over £10,000, including the Roger Re*****on Award of £4,000!

This year’s optional theme is ‘Winter Rituals’, for which The ROI Themed Painting Prize is on offer to the best interpretation! 🎨 While artists are welcome to respond to the theme, it is entirely optional and works on any subject matter may be submitted!

Acceptable media: Oils. The ROI promotes and exhibits work of the highest standard in oil paint. Water-mixable oil paint is acceptable if framed as an oil, so as not to spoil the general appearance of the exhibition.
