Southwark Park Galleries

Southwark Park Galleries Our public engagement and community work welcomes everyone.

Southwark Park Galleries is a contemporary arts organisation delivering exhibitions, events and engagement programmes across two galleries in the heart of Southwark Park, London. Southwark Park Galleries is an interdisciplinary arts organisation set across two distinctive venues – including a Grade II Listed deconsecrated church and purpose built art gallery – and a community garden in the heart o

f Southwark Park, southeast London. Through our locally relevant and internationally significant programme of exhibitions,
performances and public engagement, our mission is to connect people using the intersection of art, nature and culture to facilitate meaning and wellbeing across communities. Established in 1984, we have a thriving reputation as a test site for experimental practice by commissioning artists at a critical stage to make their most ambitious work. Our location means we can provide a rare civic offer of vital green and open cultural space for our park neighbours and beyond. As we approach our 40th anniversary celebrations in 2024, we look forward to strengthening our local, national and international partnerships; amplifying our purpose of making creativity central in building a more engaged and inclusive society. Southwark Park Galleries is the operating name of the Bermondsey Artists’ Group, a registered charity (no. 1073851) and is a Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation (NPO).

We are delighted to announce that Nick Hill has joined our Board of Trustees this summer.

Nick (MA Dip Arch ARB RIBA) is an architect with twenty-five years’ experience in practice, working with some of the UK’s leading cultural institutions. He joins our charity at an exciting juncture as we look ahead to forthcoming capital renovation of Lake Gallery, and the continued preservation of our iconic Grade II Listed Dilston Gallery.

For over ten years Nick was an Associate Director at David Chipperfield’s office in London, leading a series of high profile projects including the Hepworth Wakefield in West Yorkshire and Turner Contemporary in Margate, as well as realising the transformational masterplan for the Royal Academy, linking their home on Piccadilly to the former Museum of Mankind on Burlington Gardens.

Alongside establishing his own practice in 2017, Nick was a consultant to Witherford Watson Mann architects for four years, delivering the major refurbishment of the Courtauld Institute of Art in the Grade I listed Somerset House, completed in 2021. He has lectured at architectural schools across the UK and is currently an examiner for Part 3 professional studies at the Architectural Association.
