34 years ago today, Technōs Japan released Super Double Dragon on the Super NES to bring authentic martial arts action home. Moving away from the arcade roots, this fourth entry was created exclusively for console gamers seeking a deeper brawl. The game added technical combat options like block mechanics, high kicks, and disarming maneuvers that stood out on 16-bit hardware. It continues to hold a special spot in the history of 16-bit side-scrolling fighting titles. 🐉

Director Kitao Sakurai shared that the upcoming live action Street Fighter movie puts Ryu and Ken at the heart of the story. He explained that their iconic friendship gives the plot emotional weight rather than just focusing on a tournament. Centering on their bond was essential to honoring the legacy of Street Fighter II. A sequel is already being planned if this first film does well. 🍿

Do you think focusing on Ryu and Ken's relationship is the right direction for the movie?

Looks like Arc System Works isn't slowing down anytime soon. They’re launching a new hub in Shinjuku, Tokyo, named Studio TAKUMI, dedicated to building a new fighting game from the ground up! 🥊

"The Company has decided to open a new development studio in Shinjuku to dramatically strengthen development capabilities across Arc System Works, beginning with a new fighting game selected for the “IP360” project, a subsidy program of Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).

This studio is a strategic cornerstone for going beyond existing conventional game development frameworks and delivering an overwhelming sense of “ultimate excitement” to players around the world. Looking ahead, we envision the studio not merely as a development site, but as a powerful, outward-facing collaboration hub with a widespread global reach."

What kind of mechanics or style are you hoping to see from them this time?
