Be Andr´s Untitled (Silent / Listen) is a looping video in which the word “silence” slowly disassembles and re- forms as “listen”. Nothing else happens: no sound, no image other than the quiet choreography of letters shifting place.

The work proposes that “freedom of speech” is never only about the right to speak, but also about the capacity—and willingness—to listen. By turning “silence” into “listen”, the loop reframes quiet not as censorship or passivity, but as an active, attentive state in which other voices can appear.

Installed in a street-facing window and running 24 hours a day, the piece functions as a gentle counter-slogan to the seasonal noise of advertising and consumption. It invites passers-by to pause for a moment, to read differently, and to recognise that the same letters can spell either withdrawal or relation. Untitled (Silence / Listen) asks: what kind of public space could emerge if listening were treated as the basic
condition of free speech?

You’ve still got two days to catch ‘Who Runs the World’ Marylebone before it closes this weekend. It’s been wonderful to be part of this great show in such an amazing space. Thank you to everyone who has visited. More about the show below.
“As we enter a future shaped by machine learning, synthetic media, and data-driven economies, “Who Runs the World” invites audiences to reflect on the value we place on physical art-making today. It even dares to ask, is hand-made art on the path to becoming a relic of the past? Or will current developments prompt a revaluation of traditional art forms, increasing their value in a virtual future?
These works interrogate the evolving relationship between human creativity and machine efficiency. If machines can simulate painting, writing, composing, and even ‘feeling’, what remains uniquely human in the act of creation? This exhibition resists easy answers, instead presenting artistic strategies that challenge, reframe, and reclaim the meaning of creation in a post-labour economy.”

Introducing the work of Bomb Factory resident Be Andr, who is part of the group exhibition “Who Runs The World” at our Marylebone Gallery, opening tomorrow 6-8pm!

Andr’s practice uses a concrete set of connections between humans and machines, but this is not an attempt to make a system that should take over traditional painting systems or compete with newer robotic ways of using the painting medium. Instead, it is an endeavour to build a system that abandons the principle of digital creationism, an alternative that does not oppose the machine and algorithms against the body or being human, but puts forward an argument for coevolution and symbiosis. By treating digital codes as spatial ready-mades shifting Duchamp’s confrontation between viewer and object to an encounter between the algorithmic code and the touch (of the hand, brush, paint, canvas, keyboard) new paintings emerge through a digital algorithmic system, developed to transform everyday digital photos into oil paintings by hand.
