Save the date! ✨

Our Christmas concert will be on the 12th December, at St James in Holland Park.

It'll be our first concert with new MD Richard Decker, and we'll be singing a range of music old and new on the theme of dreams 💫

Our first rehearsal of the new season is tomorrow evening - and it'll be lovely to see both familiar and new faces 😊 If you're interested in coming along to see if we are the choir for you, send an email to our membership secretary Anna for details: [email protected] ✨

All voice types are welcome, and we are particularly keen to hear from tenors and basses! 💫

We are very excited to announce our new musical director, Richard Decker! He will be working with us from September 🎉

Richard is a countertenor and conductor from south-east London, described as a countertenor star of the future by OperaNow. He has performed in operas such as Dido and Aeneas, Die Fledermaus, and Rinaldo, and has worked with leading opera companies including Kentish Opera, Tête à Tête, HGO and Merry Opera. He is an accomplished concert singer, with a diverse portfolio ranging from Handel’s Messiah to Orff’s Carmina Burana ✨

Richard is the current MD of Dartford Choral Society, and is about to become Director of Music at St John’s Church. He trains the choristers for the Tonbridge School Chapel Choir and the King’s Chapel of the Savoy and has previously worked as Assistant Conductor with the Orchestra of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields.

Richard's favourite musical is Carousel, closely followed by West Side Story 😮 He is also a runner (and avid parkrunner!) and ran the London Marathon in 2022 for Alzheimer’s Research UK 🏃🏻‍♂️

We're very much looking forward to working with Richard, and hope that you can come and see us in our first concert with him on the 12th December! 😊

We had a lovely time singing for residents at the Dyers' Almshouses in Crawley last weekend - it was a great opportunity to sing our repertoire from the Various Voices festival again!

We'd like to thank the Dyers Company for their generous donation to the choir, which will help us enormously. Singing every week and putting on concerts brings us and our audiences huge enjoyment, and the Dyers Company's support is greatly appreciated.

✨ We're on the lookout for new members! ✨

Diversity Choir is an auditioned LGBTQ+ choir in London, rehearsing on Wednesday evenings in Holborn. Our first rehearsal of the new season will be on the 9th September.

Anyone who's interested is very welcome to come along to a trial rehearsal or two to see how we run, and if you like what we do, you can audition after one of the rehearsals. We're looking for a couple of new singers for each section: soprano, alto, tenor and bass.

We pride ourselves on singing a wide variety of genres - recently we've sung baroque madrigals, songs from the musicals Cabaret and Chicago, and popular songs in Flemish and French. We participate in choir festivals across the UK and Europe, and this year sang Mahler's 2nd symphony with West London Sinfonia.

If you have any questions about joining, feel free to email our membership secretary Anna ([email protected]). We're excited to hear from you! 🌈

Our wonderful Music Director Jan Rautio is leaving us after more than ten years - he will be sorely missed!

Jan's expert leadership, musicality and good humour have brought so much to the choir, and we are endlessly grateful for all the time and energy he has given us.

Some highlights of his time with us have included travels to Brussels, Bologna and Munich for the Various Voices festival, and Manchester, Cardiff, Brighton and Bristol for Hand in Hand. We've done performances in amazing venues like Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, and Evensong at St Paul's Cathedral. We've sung in French, German, Italian, Ukrainian and Japanese, with pieces from Baroque opera to Berlin cabaret, pop and musical theatre, thanks to Jan's breadth and depth of musical interests.

We've collaborated with the West London Sinfonia to perform Verdi's Requiem and Mahler's 2nd Symphony, and with countless vocal soloists and instrumentalists.

We won't forget performing Jan's own amazing composition "Gloria", the challenges of Poulenc's Gloria or C.P.E. Bach's Magnificat, or the beautiful Mozart C Minor Mass. His wonderful arrangements of songs from "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" to Mendelssohn's "Hear My Prayer" will live on in our repertoire and memories.

We want to wish Jan all the very best for the future - and say a huge THANK YOU for the music! 🌈

Our hearts go out to James and Simon, two fellow singers from Barberfellas and Pink Singers who were at the Various Voices festival with us in Brussels last week.

We were so sorry to hear they were attacked in the street when going back to their hotel - it's a horrific reminder of why we need pride. Pride is a protest, and we mustn't forget this. Homophobic, biphobic and transphobic hate crime still happens.

James and Simon have responded to the attack with huge courage and resilience, saying they've decided to be twice as q***r, to stand up to homophobia. We stand with them! 🌈
