It's been a tough time, but we must celebrate our successes. Today I received a photo of the first printed edition of Afternoon Chai that was sold, which will support our Collective. Thank you to the person who bought it!! I heard they are very pleased. And thank you to Tony for wanting to sell the piece for our cause.

'Afternoon Chai' - inspired by William Hogarth's 'Assembly at Wanstead House' (1728-1731) - highlights historical links between Redbridge and the East India Company, which once dominated world trade. The work reimagines the ballroom scene from the original painting, featuring the aristocratic family engaged in tea drinking and card playing. Sir Josiah Child, 1st Baronet, who was Governor of the East India Company, bought the Wanstead estate in the 1670s. Using his wealth from colonial trade, he transformed the landscape and developed gardens. His son Richard built the grand Wanstead House on the estate, completed in 1722, now the site of Wanstead Golf Course and Wanstead Park.
