Archival footage holds a huge place in cinema about Palestine. Filmmakers return to it to fill in the notes that history left out.

Next at LPFF 2026 is a dual screening of ‘Partition’ and ‘The Flowers Stand Silently, Witnessing’ at Institute of Contemporary Arts, followed by a Q&A with directors Diana Allan and Theo Panagopoulos. The two films use the archive in entirely different ways.

Allan’s ‘Partition’ fuses silent footage from the British occupation of Palestine with recordings of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon. Through dialectical montage and asynchronous sound, it recovers Palestinian presence through story, voice and song, and asks how the body keeps the score, while empires don’t.

Greek-Palestinian filmmaker Panagopoulos’s ‘The Flowers Stand Silently, Witnessing’ is an essay film on archival footage of British people in Palestine, strolling past the wildflowers native to the land. The flowers stay in frame.

Screening at LPFF 2026 is the documentary ‘Edward Said: Between Worlds’, screening at Institut français UK and The Rio Cinema, with director Maiken Baird joining us for a Q&A at Rio.

Made in collaboration with the Said estate and family, and released two decades after his passing, the film revisits the life of Palestinian-American scholar Edward Said through his own words. Drawing on unseen family archives, home movies, recordings and lost footage, it spans seven decades of his politics, his personal life and his eternal search for home.

Screening at LPFF 2026 is the UK Premiere of ‘Who Killed Alex Odeh?’ at Institute of Contemporary Arts.

Activist, teacher, and poet Alex Odeh was a leading voice for peace and justice. In October 1985, he was assassinated by a tripwire bomb in his office. Despite the evidence and suspects identified at the time, no one has ever been held accountable.

Using archival footage and new leads, the film investigates the extremist forces that may have been behind his death.
