La Forza Del Destino at Greek National Opera
La Forza del Destino’s six-minute overture contains many of the musical motifs that define the tragic relationships that will unfold throughout the opera and some of its most memorable music. We filmed the cast in full costume portraying the family backstory and suggesting why the relationships are motivated by revenge and honour. This was projected onto the painted front cloth to establish the atmosphere and motivations prior to revealing the action and was returned to in detail during scene changes throughout the piece.
In addition, the video design during the acts provided the filmic backdrop to the landscapes and the events as they unfold. All the video content was filmed and edited for use in the video design and collaboratively programmed and integrated into the set and lighting design by the creative team. It was also the third of four collaborations between Rodula Gaitanou and Dick Straker using projection to support Rodula’s vision of the production.
