Big congratulations to singer/songwriter Nigel Mear on the release of his debut album Yet So Much in May. Published under band name Night Hours, 14 songs crafted over the years and now brought together on one album, from thoughtful meditations to out-and-out rockers. Nigel launched the album with a live performance to a spellbound audience at All Saints Church, Highams Park in May. The audience loved it, the reviewers loved it. I first had the pleasure of meeting Nigel back in October 2025, He was looking to hire a hollow-body 12-string to bring some additional chime to a couple of the tracks he was recording for his debut album. I only have the one, but it was the perfect fit - the 1989 Rickenbacker 330/12. I remember going over to Gizzard Recording Studios in Stratford to collect the guitar at the end of the session and having Nigel treat me to the first cut of Don’t Wanna Sleep, featuring the 330/12 - with a tip of the hat to Tom Petty, a pounding behind-the-wheel singalong, with a perfectly British twist. With a more subtle appearance in the mix on final track Piece Of Your Heart, the 330/12 delivered just the magic Nigel was after.
Wind forward to the album live launch in May this year, and Nigel borrowed the 2016 Millman Dreadnought as a complement and alternatively tuned acoustic to his Taylor 414. A wonderful night from all I’ve seen and heard. What can I say? I have nothing but admiration and awe for what Nigel has done to pull everything together and produce a deeply personal, deeply resonant set of songs. A real privilege to have been able to spend a little time with him during the process - a lovely man and an absolute inspiration to us all!
