On May 7th 2020 over 200 people working in the Arts and Cultural sector in Athens, Greece, gathered under the Parthenon, on Dionisiou Areopagitou street to transcribe with their bodies a message that is both particular to the current moment in Greece and universal to creative workers globally, namely the demand to # SupportArtWorkers .

We are delighted to welcome Asian Performing Arts founder Florencia Guerberof as a guest artist of Kyklos Drama Studio.

Florencia will lead a Butoh Dance Theatre training session for Kyklos’ students on Monday 6th May.

Bio:

Florencia Guerberof is a London based dancer and visual artist from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Having trained extensively in Japanese Butoh dance (among other forms of Oriental Theatre), she creates a physical language drawing a force that emanates from her own presence in a conversation with the unseen.

In 2007 Florencia is awarded a Scottish Arts Council Grant which enables her to train in Japan at Kazuo Ohno Dance Studio among other Schools.

A collaboration with The London Improvisers Orchestra at Cafe Oto (2010) marks her first appearance as a performer.

In 2011 her dance theatre piece “ My hometown is in my shoes” is showcased at Fresh from The Oven Festival (Brighton) curated by Yael Karavan and at The Blue Elephant Theatre in London. On the same year she performs at Siobhan Davies and Victoria House under the direction of Marie Gabrielle Rotie.
She presents her dance solo “Thunder comes rushing forth from the earth again” in 2014 at Golive Dance and Performance Festival curated by Donald Hutera.

Her international appearances include, DANSE ELARGIE Festival (2012) at Theatre De la Ville and Cite Internationale Universitaire (France, Paris), Asian Film Festival (2013) at Haus Der Kulturen (Berlin, Germany) and a performance under the direction of SU-EN Butoh Company in Upssala, Sweden (2017).

She founds the organisation Asian Performing Arts UK in 2013 with the support of Sasakawa Foundation, Japan Society and Japan 400th. Her Butoh Research Project has been held at SOAS, RADA and Goldsmiths in London with guest artists such as Tadashi Endo and Sankai Juku.

Florencia has taught Butoh at London South Bank University and Goldsmiths.She is visiting artist and choreographer at East 15 Acting School. She currently lives and works in London.
