"Serenata dal cuore" is an orchestral work composed and orchestrated specifically by Gianluca Attanasio for the 84th (and final) birthday of Pope John Paul II, celebrated on May 18, 2004, in the Paul VI Hall (Sala Nervi) at the Vatican. The piece is performed by the Alessandria Classical Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Renato Serio. "Serenata dal cuore" accompanied the future Saint's entrance. The birthday celebrations for John Paul II were also linked to the canonization of Don Luigi Orione.
The event, titled "Many Hearts Around the Pope, Heart of the Church," was broadcast worldwide by RTV (Vatican State Television) and Rai International, and aired on a delayed broadcast by Rai Uno.

Attanasio's work is distinctly original, sometimes you hear glimpses of THE DOORS MEET JOHN CALE or IN A kaleidoscope of different haunting sounds .... that cannot be identified.
