Treading in his footsteps, I’ll show you places he knew (including the locations of both London houses we know of), reveal many hidden memorials - including a mind-boggling, 18-foot totem pole – and relate the triumphs and tragedies of his life.

In this Sonnet, Number 66, William Shakespeare is having a very bad day indeed and he provides a heart-felt laundry list of complaints about his life.

In an era of suspicion, intolerance and death-dealing, he can't be open so he tries to mask the things that are upsetting him, but there is no doubting his agitation and his sense that he is beset by a sea of troubles on every side and he feels like giving up.

At an appropriate point on the Tour, I zero in on line 4.

I talk about how his passion runs away with him here to the extent that something very important to him is not properly disguised, and how it really could have got him in a whole heap of trouble...

The 8th time, I believe, that I've performed my Shakespeare Tour for Drake University's Theatre Class.

Drake (from the US) are always great, but it was absolutely FREEZING this particular day ("it will feel like -3" warned the BBC).

I do hope they all managed to avoid colds/flu/pneumonia!

I thought I knew about Shakespeare - I didn't!

A truly great tour. Declan was entertaining and informative, leading us to places we didn't even know existed, with fascinating snippets about the Bard's life.

I felt I met the 'real' Shakespeare for the first time.

I would highly recommend this tour!

I've been doing my 'Shakespeare in the City Walk' for Drake University (coming over from the USA) for what must be close to ten years now.

I always really enjoy doing the Tour for Drake because the students are always incredibly well-behaved and attentive. They are a real credit to Drake University (and their parents, and their country)!

The teachers are great too.

I thought it was particularly nice of them the way they crouched down to make me appear a little taller! 😁

Back in action! Hopefully, in years to come people will wonder why we were all masked.

This was taken on 12th January 2022, and it's at least the 6th time Drake University in the USA have come on my 'Shakespeare in the City Walk' Tour.

The Tour Leader gave a 5-star review on TripAdvisor, and said:

"Our London Theatre History travel seminar has been booking Declan's Shakespeare walking tour for over 6 years! Many bits of information included along a rambling walk through the passages of London, you wouldn't know to notice.

Our students love it and loved the inclusion of some of Shakespeare's words performed by Declan at key moments along the way. Will continue to book this, as long as we are able!"
