Jubilee Gardens underwent a transformation in 2012 to turn it into a soft, green and sustainable park with new flower beds, granite pathways and seating edges, 97 trees and a brand new contemporary playground. The outdoor space is located within easy walking distance from several London Underground stations: Waterloo, Embankment, Charing Cross, Blackfriars and Westminster. The children's adventure

playground is open daily from 12 noon to 8pm in summer, or dusk if earlier, the Gardens themselves are open 24 hours a day.

Need a quiet, shady spot to get away from it all with a book, keep the kids cool or to catch up on emails?

Come and hide under the shade of our gorgeous feathery Bald Cypress trees, which you'll mostly find at the Belvedere Road side of the Gardens. This species is considered a living fossil, with ancestors dating back over 70 million years!

Do you know about the history of Jubilee Gardens?

One of its most visible moments was during the Festival of Britain in summer 1951 - a great national celebration whose most important site was the South Bank.

8.5 million visitors came to see exhibitions on history, landscape and sciences. Temporary structures covered what is now Jubilee Gardens – they were demolished in 1952.

Picture left: The only permanent building was the Royal Festival Hall. The picture above shows the scale of the Festival with the Dome of Discovery on the site of Jubilee Gardens and the Festival Hall above.

Picture centre: The futuristic Skylon, which became a symbol of the Festival and appeared to float above the ground. The base was nearly 15m in the air and the overall height was 90m.

This year is the 75th anniversary of the Festival of Britain and a wonderful moment to remember how the landscape has changed.

Our lovely Rudbeckia, also known as black-eyed Susan, is stealing the show right now!

Not only does it bring a splash of vibrant yellow colour to the Gardens, but it’s also a magnet for pollinators - bees, hoverflies and butterflies adore it!

Native to North American prairies, meadows and woodlands, Rudbeckia is a hardy perennial that keeps on giving, flowering from midsummer well into autumn, providing food and colour late into the season.

The seedheads also add texture to winter borders and can be a great food source for small birds such as finches. Plus, it provides a home for beneficial beetles and insects.

Thankfully, many varieties are drought-resistant, so our plants are coping well with the hot weather we've been having recently.

The playground is closed for essential maintenance today and will remain closed tomorrow, Friday 26 June, for safety due to the extreme heat warning covering London.

During the heatwave the surface temperature of some equipment is too hot to play safely - the playground will reopen when it becomes safe to do so. Always check our website for the most up-to-date details on playground opening times. Link in bio 👆️
