Dreams for the Future | Spotlighting Arie Dakesian

As part of our 25th anniversary celebrations, we are proud to introduce classical guitarist and composer Arie Dakesian. Born in Beirut to an Armenian family, Arie bridges rich heritage with world-class artistry to expand Armenian music’s reach across the global guitar repertoire. His innovative work spans solo arrangements and transcriptions of iconic masters like Komitas and Aznavour to collaborative projects like arranging Sergei Aslamazyan’s 14 Armenian Folk Miniatures alongside violinist Polina Sharafyan in their co-founded ArNor Duo. Together, these creative endeavours champion the depth and diversity of Armenian classical traditions on the international stage.

Arie completed his Master's in Performance with distinction and is currently an Artist Diploma candidate at the Royal College of Music. In 2024, he became the fifth guitarist in history to be named a Tillett Debut Artist. His artistic journey has been recognised through honours as a Houston Family Scholar and Julian Bream Trust Award recipient, alongside support from the Ouzounian Trust and Wayne Sleep Foundation.

We are delighted that Arie will be performing live with the ArNor Duo at our 25th Anniversary Gala in London on 6 November. A few tickets remain; book now and join us for an unforgettable night of music and celebration!

Six years have passed since the beginning of the Second Artsakh War. The memory of those forty‑four days remains vivid, etched into the lives of Armenians across the world. It was a time of immense sacrifice, resilience, and loss; a chapter that reshaped our collective history and deepened the wounds of displacement and grief.

Today, we honour the soldiers and civilians whose courage stood against overwhelming odds, and we remember the thousands of lives cut short. We also acknowledge the ongoing strength of the survivors and the diaspora formed, who continue to carry the story of Artsakh forward.

Commemoration is not only about mourning; it is about affirming identity, preserving memory, and standing against silence.

Today marks a powerful milestone in Armenia’s journey: 35 years since the nation reclaimed its independence. It is a story of resilience, courage, and unity, written by generations who believed in the strength of their homeland and the promise of its future.

This anniversary is not only about looking back at the struggles overcome, but also about celebrating the achievements, culture, and spirit that continue to inspire Armenians everywhere.

Join us to celebrate the launch of You Must Become Field, the debut poetry collection by Lebanese-Armenian poet Perla Kantarjian, published by Bad Betty Press

Rooted in the long aftermath of the Armenian Genocide, You Must Become Field moves between inherited memory and the urgent present, tracing the ways history persists—in language, landscape, the body, and across generations. Kantarjian’s poems attend to what survives rupture and displacement, and to the forms of remembrance, intimacy and resistance that emerge in their wake. For the evening, Kantarjian will be joined in conversation by Sarah Mnatzaganian, an award-winning British-Armenian poet whose writing moves through family, Armenian identity and the textures of memory. Together they will explore the histories and inheritances that shape the collection, the possibilities of writing across distance and generations, and what it means to make poetry in the presence of histories that are not past. Their conversation will be followed by a reading from You Must Become Field.

This event is held in collaboration with Bad Betty Press.
