Persona Collective brings together community members and creative practitioners to devise and perform site-specific, immersive theatre. "We bridge communities and take art, design and performance out of their traditional ghettos. We create and stage extraordinary events in unexpected places, encouraging excavation and creation of space and culture"

Persona Collective invites in each production a

team of artists, designers and creative directors from the fields of film, art, architecture, design, theatre and education. Persona Collective sprang from the arts community in Manor House, Harringay, and was funded by Rocio Ayllón and established as a community interest company in 2017. Productions:

We’ve been underground, building worlds. 🌍

Now we’re back.

With support from ’ DYCP grant awarded to director and in collaboration with creative technologist , we spent the past year researching and experimenting at the intersection of video games and immersive theatre, pushing new forms of interactive performance. 🎮🎭

We wrapped up with The Infinite Game, a multi-location live test where audiences became players, navigating open worlds, meeting NPCs, and reshaping the story in real time.

This is just the beginning.

The next chapter is coming. Stay tuned.

Meet some of the diverse cast + creators of THE VILLAGE 聚居地 with some words on the costume design by the wonderful

‘For this project I really wanted to focus on sustainability as costumes are often disregarded after stylists and costume designers are done using them for projects. I have collected a small archive of clothing that I find interesting over the years that I then used to style as pieces for costume, pieces of clothing can have many lives and can be used in different contexts depending on styling and the project. For this project about 95% of pieces are either from second hand shops or my own archive, due to time constraints and hygiene reasons some pieces such as a few pairs of shoes or tights have been bought new, however the majority of pieces are not and will be reused or repurposed for future projects personal or professional. I think as a creative it is my responsibility to think outside the box and use things such as colour or texture to portray the characters through delicate nods to characteristics each of the characters possess.

Another important thing, especially working with a mix of professional and amateur performers is to make them feel comfortable as they are the ones who have to get into character everytime before the show starts, therefore working closely with the performers on costume is an important part of making such project work overall.’

The Village is a multi-location immersive theatre piece devised and staged by Persona Collective inside Soho & Chinatown. Our live shows are taking place from 30th March to 19th April 2023. This project celebrates the diversity & tolerance of Soho’s local community & indie businesses with a narrative based on real voices and in real unique locations in the local area.
The audience will find themselves stepping into an intimate journey across multiple secret locations throughout Soho & Chinatown; weaving through hidden passageways. They will be immersed in a multi-sensory experience, somewhere between fiction and reality. Each group of audience will be following one character’s story, whilst witnessing threads of multiple narratives throughout their journey. Audience members usually describe the experience as “being immersed inside of a film” or as “hyper-real, it was never clear whether something was reality or an artistic construct”.

Route 0.1 - 𝗙𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗡

After dark in Soho, nothing is as it seems. Tying someone up can set them free. Abducting someone can save their life. When we drown, we are born again. Three strangers, unaware of their connection, begin an odyssey that will bring them together and force them apart, whilst invisible powers conspire to seal their fate. Until then, they will dance, love and move as if it is their first and final day on Earth.

Exhilarating, naughty, smelly, noisy. Red lights are everywhere. This is a haunting tale of revenge, violence, desire, impossible love, loss and redemption set against the backdrop of late 70’s early 80’s. Follow the protagonists through the streets of Soho. These people have dreams. These people want to escape reality. These people are here to hide, find warmth, stay alive or be part of a family. Their bodies are exulting to conjure death. Life is a party. Life is a dance between Good and Evil, and danger is lurking at every corner.

Within this strange space, they are forced to confront distorted memories, disconnected identities, and disrupted realities. The wheel of fortune keeps spinning and knows no end. Let us witness the journey of these people as they adapt, transform, and repeat their daily lives in Chinatown.
