What a fantastic evening at our Brick Lane Benefit Night last Saturday! 🎭✨

Saturday night’s show was dedicated to local Newham Youth organisation, Ambition, Aspire, Achieve, raising an incredible £19,000 for the Charity’s invaluable work.

Thanks to your generosity, through ticket sales, the raffle, auction and donations, we raised just over £19,000. This is for Best Welcome, Best Food and Drink, Best Facilities and Best Accessibility. We could not be more delighted! Thanks to everyone who voted for us. Also in this year's Fringe Theatre Awards, Jack and His Giant Stalk has received a nomination in the Best Production category and the The Magic of Christmas has two nominations, for Costume and for Musical Direction. Wish us luck!!🎭🥳🥳

As they are already making preparations for next year’s pantomime for grown-ups, one year ago today our lovely panto team were at the UK pantomime awards to collect Brick Lane Music Hall’s special award for upholding British Pantomime History and Heritage 🥳🎉

2026 marks the 100th anniversary of Bud Flanagan and Chesney Allen first working together in a Florrie Forde R***e in 1926. Founding members of the Crazy Gang, the famous comedy duo went on to be household names as leading variety artists until well into the 1960’s.

Our next show is “That’s Entertainment - The Best of British Variety” with our own tribute to the much-loved duo, as well as our own Florrie Forde r***e, honouring these timeless artists’ place in the annals of British Variety.

- In keeping with the Flanagan and Allen theme of recent posts here we have an original advertising roundel from the 1930's that would have been displayed in record shop windows to advertise recordings that the duo were putting out on the Columbia record label. The pair had their first hit in 1932 and followed this up with many more popular recordings and though Chesney Allen virtually retired in 1945 the pair did still perform together on occasion after this.

2026 actually marks the 100th anniversary of the pair first working together during 1926 in a Florrie Forde R***e Show titled 'Here's to You'. Bud Flanagan would go on to record the famous Dads Army Theme Tune in 1968 proving to be his last recording shortly before his death the same year and Chesney Allen recorded for the last time in 1982 aged 88 again shortly before his death for the cast recording of 'Underneath the Arches' which starred past President Roy Hudd alongside Christopher Timothy at the Prince of Wales Theatre.
