Three Little Pigs, or Chronicles of the Building Site - a new play by Inna Cebotari.

In the week commencing 2 March, we spent five intensive days at Arcola Theatre developing this production, inspired by interviews with migrant workers on UK construction sites. The play combines real workers’ stories, artistically adapted to protect their anonymity, with the well-known English fairy tale The Three Little Pigs.

On Friday, we presented a short work-in-progress preview to producers, actors, and everyone supporting the project. Thank you all who came and inspired us with your support!

Special thanks to Arcola Theatre and the Arcola Lab program for providing the space and the opportunity to explore this text together with the actors.

• "It’s very rare that I go to the theatre and see something this alive, something that makes me cry and laugh literally in the same breath!
It’s phenomenal what Inna and Sava and the actors have achieved in such a short space of time - the stories are timely, important and urgent to tell, and artistically the piece is a breath of fresh air. It plays with tropes from children’s stories, subverts them, connects them to the world we live in so effortlessly and so masterfully that it made me wonder if I’d misunderstood the tale of the Three Little Pigs all along.

• "An eerie mix of familiar comedy and the discomfort of daily life hits you from the opening of the play. You don’t know if you are in someone’s twisted dream or the stark reality of the world we live in. As the characters are introduced, you begin to care for them and their stories. What starts as farce is masterfully guided by Sava’s direction toward a deeper understanding of the feelings many of us have about the world but struggle to articulate. Inna’s writing offers a powerful glimpse into that experience, weaving the story of construction workers together with motifs from the fairy tale of the Three Little Pigs, moving between laughter and intense emotion.

Three Little Pigs, or Chronicles of the Building Site
A new play by Inna Cebotari

Last week we spent five intense days at Arcola Theatre developing this new work, inspired by interviews with migrant workers on UK construction sites.

The play weaves together real testimonies from construction workers, carefully fictionalised to protect their identities and interwoven with the well-known English folktale The Three Little Pigs.

On Friday we shared a short work-in-progress presentation with friends and supporters. Thank you to everyone who came and supported the project.

A new play by Inna Cebotari.

Inna Cebotari appears as Mummy Pig, while also stepping into multiple other characters throughout the piece. Alongside her work as the playwright behind the play, she joins the performance itself, helping shape the rhythm and emotional pulse of the story from within.
Through sharp observation and a tender sense of humour, her presence complements the ensemble’s quick transformations, echoing the real voices and experiences that inspired the work.
