Recently I had the privilege of spending the morning at the AETC Club for a brilliant women’s tennis event hosted by Max

I went along with Casilda Malagon and not really knowing what to expect… and left feeling completely energised.

From the moment we stepped onto court, the atmosphere was high energy, welcoming and full of positivity. We had the chance to train with AELTC Head Coach Dan Bloxham and the coaching team, an amazing experience and definitely a reminder of just how high the standard is at Wimbledon! 🎾

What made the morning so special wasn’t just playing on those incredible courts, but the spirit behind the event.

Give It Your Max is doing fantastic work using sport, wellbeing and community programmes to support young people and families, helping build confidence, connection and opportunity through movement and participation.

After tennis, we toured Centre Court, the grounds and Broadcast House, still one of my favourite places to be, especially just before The Championships begin and everything comes to life. There’s something inspiring about seeing the calm before the world arrives.

It also reminded me how important these moments are:
- trying something new
- stepping outside your day-to-day
- connecting with different people and experiences
- making time for energy, movement and community

When work and life feel full-on, those moments matter more than ever.

A brilliant morning, fantastic women, lots of laughs + tennis techniques.

We’ve been a little quiet on socials recently not because things have slowed down, but because it’s felt like we’ve been pulled in every direction.

Recruitment.
Executive search.
A changing market.
Conversations around AI.

Global uncertainty.
And behind the scenes… building a new website and exploring an exciting new idea we’ve been quietly working on.

It’s been busy. At times overwhelming. And like many businesses right now, we’re constantly trying to balance delivering today’s work while still making space for the ideas that could shape tomorrow.

Because if you don’t make time for your own goals and ambitions… they may never happen.
Recently, watching my son’s rugby team huddled together listening to their coach, it struck me how much sport mirrors business and life.

The drive.
The teamwork.
The resilience.
The importance of backing each other when things feel uncertain.

Sometimes when you’re running at 100 miles an hour, unsure which direction to take next, you need moments that pull you back into perspective — family, sport, connection, community.
Those moments recharge you.

They remind you why you’re pushing forward in the first place.

And honestly? Melissa and I are starting to feel excited again about what’s next.
We don’t have all the answers yet. But we do have ideas, energy, experience and a real belief in building something meaningful together.

Here’s to momentum, collaboration and keeping going, even when the route ahead isn’t fully mapped out yet. ✨

Business Networking Breakfast at Wimbledon

Yesterday morning started at one of my favourite places, at The All England Lawn Tennis Club Wimbledon

Centre Court, no crowds and a room full of local businesses brought together by

I went along with my friend - a brilliant connector and sustainability Expert.

The panel discussion gave a real insight into what’s happening behind the scenes across tennis, football and local programmes and how much opportunity sits within the wider community.

What stood out most?

Access. Opportunity. Community.

Especially when it comes to inspiring the next generation. It made me think about my
son and how important it is to create access to sport, confidence and community for every child.

We spend so much time focused on our world and building what’s next but stepping outside of it brings fresh perspective back in.

You don’t always know what will come of it, but it’s all about connection and community.

January Reflections — Setting the Tone for this New Year

We’re a couple of weeks into the year now, and rather than rushing out a “New Year, New Goals” post, we’ve been doing a lot of focusing of what next.

2025 was a challenging year for us. There were plenty of highs and lows, a lot of hustling, and moments that asked us to really dig deep. But out of that hard work, the conversations, the thinking, the questioning, something important emerged. A new way of working. Proof that even the hardest years can plant the right seeds.

It’s a season of momentum, but also intention: balancing ambition with health, movement, headspace and clarity.

Last weekend was a reminder of why that balance matters. I spent Saturday with my son, catching up with friends, and then squeezed in a visit to the Kerry James Marshall exhibition at the Royal Academy before it closed. Even on a quick whizz around (with a child in tow!), it was impossible not to be moved.

Marshall’s work is bold, layered and unapologetically powerful - rich colour, glittering detail, everyday scenes elevated into something monumental. My son and I were drawn to - The Plunge 1992 and School of Beauty, School of Culture 2012 paintings — stories, characters and moments that felt alive, joyful and confident in their presence.

It reminded me how important it is to make space for new experiences, art, conversations, time together because this is where ideas form, perspective shifts, and creativity sharpens. These moments don’t distract from the work; they fuel it.

As we move through the start of this year, we’re focused on building with intention, creating something meaningful, staying connected to the people we work with, and leading with clarity rather than noise.

More to come but for now, we’re trusting the process and the direction we’re heading in.Here’s to a year of focus, curiosity and thoughtful growth. ✨

Reflecting on 2025 at Mavis

As the year draws to a close, we’ve been reflecting on what 2025 has been for us at Mavis
— a year of highs, lows, and a lot of determination in between.

This year asked a lot of us.

There was plenty of hustling.

Moments of uncertainty.

Recruitment and executive search kept us moving forward while, quietly in the background, something new began to take shape.

Out of the hard work, conversations and endless brainstorming, the questioning, reworking and “what ifs” a shift started to happen. Momentum we couldn’t see at first, but could feel.
A breakthrough that’s brought clarity on what comes next.

We’re still doing the work we love, supporting clients, partnering with leaders, championing great talent but this year also opened the door to new thinking, fresh ambition, and the early stages of an exciting pivot we’re taking into 2026.

What made the difference was working as a tight, trusted team. Leaning on each other, being honest when things felt tough, and pushing forward anyway. Alongside the insight and inspiration from every conversation, that belief shifted the dial.

We’re hugely grateful to the clients, candidates and people who trusted us and inspired us along the way. Every conversation mattered.

2025 reminded us that growth isn’t linear but if you stay curious, resilient and open to change, progress follows. We’re heading into the next chapter with renewed energy, clearer goals and big ambitions for the leadership work ahead.

Thank you for being part of the journey ,we’re excited for what’s next. 💛✨

Building Something New While Keeping Something Going

Right now, we’re in an interesting phase at Hello Mavis. We’re doing the work we know - the recruitment, headhunting, nurturing relationships and supporting clients, but we’re also quietly building something new behind the scenes.

It’s exciting.
It’s a lot.
And it’s definitely not instant.

You can feel all the signs that it’s working, tiny wins, positive conversations, momentum but there’s no guarantee, no “big reveal,” no overnight success moment.

It made us wonder:

How do other founders manage the overlap between the now and the next?
The business-as-usual that sustains you, and the pivot that will hopefully transform you?

If you’ve navigated a similar shift, building something new while keeping your core business running, how did you balance:
- time
- energy
- revenue
- and belief in what you’re building?

We’d love to hear how others have survived and sustained the pivot phase.

Here’s to building quietly, consistently, and with purpose, even when the payoff isn’t immediate.

One of the most rewarding parts of what we do is when previous clients return not because they have to, but because they want to work with us again.

Recently, a team we supported last year reached out for help on a new brief. We understood the calibre they needed, the pace they were moving at, and the type of talent that would thrive in their culture and we were able to present a shortlist that genuinely excited them.

We’ve since placed one of our brilliant freelancers on a 6-month contract, and the feedback we received this week really stopped us in our tracks.

They told us:

- our successful candidate was “extremely talented, thoughtful, and purpose-driven”
- the interview came down to two exceptional people — a good problem to have
- our second option they “rated him very highly” and hope to bring him in for another role in the New Year
- and, most importantly… they loved our process

What felt particularly meaningful was this line:

“The way you presented the candidates with all the key information to allow us to review quickly was extremely helpful — so much better than the basic emails we were sent by others.”

It’s a small detail.
But small details are the work.
They show care, accuracy, and respect for the client’s time.

At Hello Mavis, we pride ourselves on that level of thoughtfulness, championing great talent, supporting the people who trust us, and making hiring feel human again.

This feedback has energised us. It’s inspired us to keep raising the bar, supporting more organisations through change, and helping brilliant people find the roles where they can make their mark.

If you’re thinking ahead to new hires, restructures, or fresh freelance support in the new year, we’d love to help you start strong. ✨

🌟 Rising to the Challenge

It’s hard not to feel inspired this week. Watching Sara Cox take on five marathons in five days across Northumberland (our home town), the North East and Yorkshire, in driving rain, on brutal hills, and in the darkest weeks of the year, has been nothing short of extraordinary. And the result? £10,169,084 raised for Children in Need.

What stood out wasn’t just the physical feat, but the mindset:

Showing up when it hurts.

Holding steady when the weather turns.

Taking the next step when nobody would blame you for stopping.

Letting others’ beliefs carry you when your own energy dips.

It’s a reminder that determination isn’t loud.
It’s not glamorous.
It’s not always confident.
Often, it looks like simply putting one foot in front of the other.

As leaders, founders, and teams, we face our own “five marathons in five days” moments.
A pivot that feels daunting.
A strategy that needs rewriting.
A market shift that demands resilience.
Or a personal goal that feels just out of reach.

Challenges push us.
But they also clarify us, revealing what we’re capable of, what matters, and how strong we can be when we lean on others.

And then decide to keep going anyway.

This moment has inspired us to set fresh challenges - personally and professionally and to support others doing the same. If you’re exploring a new direction, a leadership step, or a shift in your business, we’d love to hear what you’re working towards. 💛✨
