Almost Body — Qian Zhong

—

Soho Revue is pleased to present ‘Almost Body’, a solo exhibition of Qian Zhong’s works that look closely at the body in its shifting state.

Moving bodies dance and weave across the canvases, merging into one another through repeated brushstrokes that build on the linen creative movement even in the texture. Shoulder blades glint, stomachs twist and the spandex fabrics fold; the body is something to be viewed beyond corporeality into something that is not entirely solid, not entirely fixed.

Spotlight : Layla Andrews

Layla Andrews (b. 1997) is a British artist based in Margate, England. Her paintings explore the complexities of the human condition- how we navigate, endure, and make sense of the world. Rooted in emotional experience, her work reflects the duality of our fragility and resilience.
Andrews studied History, Literature, and Culture. She is interested in how storytelling weaves through intergenerational and personal narratives, with her paintings drawing on the layered nature of recollection. Figures, domestic settings and recurring symbols become vessels for tracing configurations of identity, memory and dreams. Moving between the familiar and the surreal, her work considers the tension between escapism and remembering.

United by storytelling of personal and folkloric histories, Soho Revue presents works by Layla Andrews and Gala Hills, alongside bronze sculptures by Constanza Pulit.

All three artists; Pulit, Andrews and Gala use animals as figurative symbols with which to come closer to the understanding of our human psychology and the stories we share with one another. Where Gala uses animal-human mythology and takes inspiration from texts such as Ovid’s Metamorphosis, Layla utilises animals as signifiers as place and of her roots in Saint Helena, whilst Pulit draws on Latin American magical realism. All three artists seek to dissolve their individual understanding of the hierarchies between human and non-human, instead proposing a reality where lines are blurred and interconnected.

Spotlight : Gala Hills

Gala Hills (b. 2001) is an artist whose primary mediums include painting, mask making and installation. Being brought up by Dartmoor, Devon, her practice brings an alternative, rural and imaginative ethos into a contemporary urban world. Gala studied for a BfA at The Ruskin School of Art and recently completed an MfA at The Slade School of Art. Her practice utilises a combination of academic and automatic approaches, drawing from a pedagogy of alternative feminist history and folk knowledge and reimagining through impulsive, dream-like creativity. As an autistic home-educated child, innate curiosity and inquisitiveness were priorities, characteristics that still motivate her work.

Soho Revue is pleased to announce the representation of Georgina Odell. After working closely with the artist over the past two years, presenting her inaugural solo exhibition at the gallery, we look forward to displaying Odell’s work in an upcoming group exhibition in November, and a further solo exhibition in June of 2027.

About the artist -

Georgina Odell(b.2000) is a multimedia artist based in London, currently in residence at Sarabande: The Lee Alexander McQueen Foundation. Through weaving, embroidery and engraving, the artist constructs the notion of memory and plays with the emotional labour involved with reassembling the self.

Drawing from nostalgic objects, snippets of text, domestic materials and motifs associated with childhood, family and the home, her work reimagines the familiar as vessels for storytelling and reflection, creating sculptural environments that feel at once autobiographical and universally recognisable.

Odell graduated from Goldsmiths, University of London in 2024. Recent exhibitions include: ’Notes From The Studio’ (Incubator, London 2025-2026), ’The Bird Is On The Wing’ (Izena, London, 2025) and Untitled Miami with Soho Revue in 2025.

Interview with Joana Galego, by Melissa Baksh for Go With Yamo

“Tell me a bit about yourself.

I come from Portugal, and I moved to London 10 years ago to study at the
Royal Drawing School. I was very lucky to receive an award at the end of the
year, a grant to prepare a solo show over the course of the year after
graduating. That was life-changing, because it allowed me to stay and start
creating works here. I had a solo show with Soho Revue in 2023, and I’ve been
working with them ever since. I also teach art to children and adults.

Which artists are you enjoying at the moment?

Pierre Bonnard, Paula Modersohn-Becker, Watteau and Balthus. I’m currently
looking at this book called “Dreams of a Summer Night”. It features
Scandinavian painting from the turn of the century that is quite sombre, dark
and magical. I like a lot of contemporary painters, too. I saw an exhibition of
Graça Morais in Portugal in the summer - she’s a great painter. I’m curious to
see Jonathan Wateridge’s show at Grimm Gallery.”
