Filament Theatre

Filament Theatre Filament Theatre produces inclusive work featuring original vocal music for audiences and participants.

The company is led by composer and choir leader, Osnat Schmool and director, Sabina Netherclift. Combining rich vocal harmonies and a physical approach to performance, we create original, dynamic music theatre. We bring inclusive performances and participation work to a wide audience by working in partnership with other organisations and performing in both theatres and non-traditional public space

s from St Pancras Station to Lewisham Shopping Centre. We work with artists at all stages of their careers and from many different backgrounds. Since our formation in 2009 we have created 6 original pieces, (One or the Other, One Small Step and One Dark Night are now being developed together as Under One Roof) reached over 12,500 people, and worked on participatory projects with over 3000 people.

Filament are developing a new gig theatre show, Songs of Hope and Resistance. Britain has a long and proud history of using song as a means of protesting injustice. Before they were called protest songs, ballads were being charted which protested attacks on religious freedoms and famine. From decrying the scarcity of corn, opposing agricultural enclosures, the loss of life in the Peterloo massacres, the terrible deprivations of the Jarrow marchers, suffragism, people have used their voices to amplify causes close to their hearts minds and bodies. We will be exploring songs from here and further afield in this piece of theatre - and should have something to share by summer 2026.

UCL presents Space Tangle, a bold new exhibition by Dr Sarah Fortais for World Space Week.
The exhibition with run from 3rd Oct - 2nd Nov 10am - 6pm at the first floor galleries, Marshgate Building UCL East, 7 Sidings St E20 2AE

Filament Theatre’s sound composition Fragments written by Osnat Schmool, will accompany Sarah Fortais’s Cosmic Debris installation. The work complements Filament’s Choral Theatre piece Earth Makes No Sound (EMNS); a choral song and movement cycle which serves as a love letter to our planet and a warning to humanity. EMNS has been performed in several settings including The Queen Elizabeth Hall, Hull Truck Theatre and at the opening of UCL East (2023) where it was performed on various levels of the building in the shadow of Luke Jerram’s Gaia now permanently displayed in the building

Observing the pollution of space at mankind’s hands chimed in with the essence of EMNS. Osnat has drawn inspiration from Sarah’s beautiful work, deeply connected to community and collective responsibility as well as the data of fragments of satellites, space stations and spaceships, the idea of their continuous motion and their impacts and collisions.

Fragments is performed by Cassiopeia Berkeley-Agyepong, Ryan O’Riordan, Abdul Shyllon and Osnat Schmool with sound production by Tim Burns. Research and development by Sabina Netherclift, Osnat and Ryan.
