πŸ“£ Re-making/Breaking traditions is returning this Autumn.

Facilitated by SDS’ Co-artistic director Annie Pui Ling Lok, Re-making/Breaing is is a space to explore how rituals of cultural tradition can/not be translated into rituals of performance.

πŸ’Ž These sessions has been conceived by Artistic Director of New Earth Theatre Ailin Conant and SDS’ Co-artistic director Annie Pui Ling Lok taking as a starting point shared questions around:
- what traditions/rituals sit with me and seep into my practice?
- what can power and agency over cultural heritage look like?
- can respect and irreverence sit side by side?
- how do/can we value the fragmented memories and fractured knowledge of cross-cultural nomads, third-culture kids, 2nd and 3rd generations (etc.)?

🌟 This is a space exclusively for artists of BPOC/ global majority who are already with their own ideas, questions and existing practices. We are inviting free participation through a short application form in either audio or text.

πŸ—“οΈ Wed 23 Sep, 1 – 5.30pm
🎟️ Free, apply by 9 am, Fri 4 Sep.

πŸ’Ž The Underscore returns for its 4th edition at Pembroke House.

The Underscore for BPOC/Global Majority dancers is co-led by Nathaniel Parchment and Annie Pui Ling Lok. This session is for dancers interested in exploring their practice in relation to Contact Improvisation.

Nathaniel and Annie will be harnessing the Underscore framework to go deeper and question how to create a space where Contact Improvisation can be owned and practiced by everyone; and be truly inclusive through a process of conscious decoloniality.

Please note this session is in collaboration with and will take place there (address below)

πŸ’ Some audience reflections from LIVING IMAGE Chapter 1 ...

"A beautiful evening of dance."
"If I were to put words into it in this moment, I'd say that everything feels extremely honest."
"The soft animal of the human body. Inspiration, curiosity, excitement."
"I've never seen anything like it."

🀍 A huge thank you to the five incredible artists behind these two wonderful evenings!

🌟 Marking SDS’s 20th anniversary, LIVING IMAGE is a four-chapter project (July 2026 – July 2027) which invites 20 artists to deconstruct, dismantle, and reclaim movement traditions in a project that dis/honours Siobhan Davies’ original work, challenging how dance history is archived and celebrated.

Chapter 2 is coming in November! Stay tuned.

πŸ„ Tomorrow we are going on a q***r ecology walk and movement session around SDS with Maymana Arefin and June Yuen Ting.

πŸ‘£ Through storytelling, moving, and talking, this session invites us to learn from a natural world that has always resisted neat categories, and hone in on the practice of noticing and recognising that which goes unnoticed or unrecognised. Asking:

🌿 What lies in the crevices, shades, edges and undersides of the more-than-human world?
🌿 How might we learn to look for or listen to the minute, the quiet, the hidden and the ephemeral that exist amongst us?
🌿 How might our q***rly embodied relationships to plants and lands be of service to the larger social movements for justice?
🌿 What it might mean to carry those lessons into our own lives?

✨ Join us tomorrow!

🌈 This particular session is LGBTQIA+ exclusive. No experience needed.
