Jenny Holzer’s Truisms.

In her mid-twenties, Holzer was given a hefty reading list by her art school tutor. Rather than simply absorb the texts, she “reduced all the reading to one-liners.”

With a rebellious spirit, Holzer printed her one-line summaries and posted them across Manhattan.

The Truisms series grew to over 300 unforgettable slogans and has since occupied public spaces, private homes, galleries, and museum collections around the world.

If you could write your own Holzer print, what would it say?

David Bowie as Andy Warhol in Julian Schnabel’s Basquiat (1996).

Adorned in Warhol’s authentic wigs and glasses, Bowie brings his own personal experiences with Warhol to the role. Bowie describes Warhol as a ‘lethal kind of Svengali figure’.

A strange meeting of two icons, captured on screen.

“Instagram in real life”

Brent McKeever takes us inside a recreation of his COVID bedroom, a space saturated with celebrity imagery and the visual culture that shaped him.

Growing up in Malibu, McKeever became fascinated by the mythology of celebrity and the power of images to construct desire, a fascination that ultimately led him to photography.

In his debut solo exhibition LOOK, these ideas expand into a hyperreal world of lenticulars where glamour meets unease.

An Exhibition titled CONTROL, full of unplayable games.

CONTROL asks us to look beyond gameplay and consider how video game aesthetics have reshaped contemporary art.

The exhibition itself becomes a game as hidden artwork is installed like real-life “easter eggs,” rewarding visitors who stray from the main gallery.

In one performance, artist Eva Mattes entered a video game lobby begging players not to kill her because she was creating performance art... she was repeatedly killed and mocked.

“Success comes when you say, ‘I like this enough for other people to see it.’” - Rick Rubin

Rubin’s philosophy on creativity has little to do with chasing perfection and everything to do with trusting your own instinct.

Rather than creating for approval, he encourages artists to make work that feels true to them, and to let that be enough.

Now on view at Frieze House Seoul, Heesoo Kim’s quietly sentimental works capture the small miracles of everyday life.

Drawing on themes of family, friendship and love, Kim transforms familiar experiences into works that reflect the connections between people and the hope we hold onto despite life’s uncertainties.

Characterised by bold contours and richly layered surfaces, his figures quietly reflect the ways we lean on one another, finding meaning in the relationships that shape our lives.

Heesoo Kim’s paintings are displayed at Frieze House Seoul in Summer Sparks III: Flare.

Congratulations to Jess Allen on her inclusion in Vestiges at Annely Juda Fine Art, in which she debuts her new series Many Selves.

Known for paintings that evoke people through the traces they leave behind, Jess Allen’s latest works shift towards self-portraiture.

Through repeated, cropped compositions, these new works explore identity as something continually changing through obscured features and silhouetted form.

On view 23 July - 28 August in Vestiges at Annely Juda Fine Art.

The artwork AI could never create.

British sculptor Kate MccGwire takes us inside her remarkable private feather archive, home to thousands of carefully collected bird feathers.

In this conversation, MccGwire reflects on how her practice and the complexity of a single feather is something she believes AI cannot truly recreate.

Rather than seeing advances in technology as a threat, she finds this exciting, reaffirming the unique value of working by hand with materials found in nature.

Raised on the Norfolk Broads, MccGwire developed a lifelong fascination with birds, a connection that continues to shape her practice today.

STIFLE and MURMUR are currently on view in The Only True Protest is Beauty, the inaugural exhibition at Fondazione Dries Van Noten, Palazzo Pisani Moretta, Venice.
