The Jam Tart Story
Jam Tart is an open mic/jam session where we encourage you to get up and play your own music (yes please), covers (only occasionally) or improvise (yes please) with our house band.
We have drums, bass, guitar and keys and the house band is made from top UK session musicians. Its about positivity, getting on stage with other performers and putting yerself out there but it AINT fookin karaoke!
If you want to perform, you gotta be good - simple as that. Just cause yer nan’s into what you do, doesnt necessarily mean we will want you on the stage (Does that sound rude?). Our intention is not to come across as asssssholes, but we do seriously want people with experience and talent, so squeegee your third eye and evaluate where your skills lie (or lie).
The house band is made from top UK session musicians who have played with artist’s such as the late great’s: Prince, Amy Winehouse, Michael Jackson and George Michael, then there’s Stevie Wonder, Plan B, Jazmine Sullivan, Basement Jaxx, Usher, Alexander O’Neal, James Blunt (that last one is a joke although there is probably someone who has played with him). I cant be bothered to write anymore but you get the jist. Jam Tart has also appeared on the BBC, MTV and in numerous magazines such as Elle and some others that I cant quite remember at this juncture. So yeah we’re name dropping. Anyway.......
If you just wanna come and see some great performances, we will welcome you with open arms into an evening’s worth of delectible struggle snuggles. If you wanna perform:
Rules
Get your name on the list between 8pm and 9:30pm. Music kicks off at 9:30pm sharp.
NO rehearsals. Bring your own written music if you want the band to play something specific. This is seat o’ the pants performance.
NO cd's or backing tracks and no more versions of classic Neo-Soul songs please. Its been done to death. I also love that stuff but am incredibly bored with your version. That is of course unless youve spiced it up a bit and you’re mates with Kendrick Lamar and he’s coming with you to rap on it.
Bring your own musicians if you wish.
This aint a competition even if the TV has convinced you that everything is nowadays, so leave those sorts of ideas at home in the drawer with yer solar powered d***o that plays Shaggy’s greatest hits on those long lonely winter nights.
I will pick out people from the list, it wont be in order of when you put your name down, but I will try my hardest to get you on. Apologies if there are too many performers, but there is often not enough time to get everyone on.
Erm.... lets try and enjoy yourselves before the upcoming apocalypse. I certainly will.
Lots of love. Steven Tart (your host) and Dan Benzenou (his landlord).
