⭐️ The Reckoning WORLD PREMIERE this May! ⭐️

A journalist meets a man in a ruined village outside Kyiv.

- Why don’t you start with when the war began for you?

Written by Anastasiia Kosodii and Josephine Burton, and directed by Burton, The Reckoning is a vivid and powerful new play about war, survival and the fragile trust between those who uncover the truth and those who must live with it.

Based on real events within The Reckoning Project's verified archive of witness testimonies of the Russian war in Ukraine, The Reckoning is both playful and unsettling, blending storytelling with movement, music and cooking.

Every show ends with Food For Thought, a brief insight from an invited special guest - a journalist, activist, lawyer, and those with lived experience of the conflict.

The Reckoning will play at Arcola Theatre 29 May - 28 June

"It's time our water returned to the tribe, to the people and to the public. We can do it better!"

Burton worked with Clive Lewis MP to shape his speech for a Private Members’ Bill, advocating for water to be publicly owned and for citizens assemblies. We enjoyed the opportunity to contribute to meaningful change in our society, extend our brilliant Speak Out! workshops into Parliament and to demonstrate the power of well-crafted words in action.

The writers behind The Reckoning:

Our Artistic Director, Josephine Burton, and Anastasiia Kosodii have been crafting the script since Summer 2023. Soon, it will take the stage at Arcola Theatre in May and June 2025. Josephine and Anastasiia have passed the script between Berlin - London - Ukraine, and have met several times to work on the script in person.

"We are creating a work of theatre - a show that we hope will hold fast to our audiences, bringing a vital human face to a tragedy that is unfolding on the other side of the continent, moving beyond the scrolling ticker of countless nameless tragedies to tell a story of real people whom our audience can care about."
