Dear Klezfest Community,

We want to acknowledge the depth of feeling surrounding Klezfest. Your messages, feedback, and the recent petition have made it clear how much this festival means to so many of you. We hear you and truly appreciate your passion.

We also recognise that the way this news reached some of you was not ideal. Our goal has always been to communicate thoughtfully and directly, and we regret that this wasn’t handled as smoothly as we would have liked.

As many of you know, JMI has faced ongoing challenges in running Klezfest. Since its restart in 2015, it has been unable to cover its costs, yet we have continued because we strongly believe in its value. This year, additional hurdles—including scheduling conflicts with other summer schools, broader organisational changes, and financial constraints—made it even more difficult. Above all, there is a need to rethink Klezfest’s structure to ensure its sustainability, appeal, and longevity.

Given this, we made the difficult decision to pause Klezfest in 2025 to allow for a thoughtful and strategic reimagining. This is not about stepping away from Klezfest—it’s about ensuring that when it returns, it does so with stronger artistic direction, greater sustainability, and an even richer experience for participants.

Over the past months, we’ve been in discussions with faculty and community members about how Klezfest can evolve while staying true to its spirit. This process is ongoing, and we are committed to taking the time needed to make the right decisions.

While change is never easy, this is an important moment of growth for JMI. We remain dedicated to strengthening our programmes and ensuring Klezfest’s future.

We understand how much this festival means to the community and do not take that lightly. With this in mind, we are carefully re-evaluating the next steps and will share a full update soon. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out with any feedback, thoughts or questions.

Thank you for being part of this journey—we appreciate your support and look forward to shaping the next chapter together.

🎷 𝐉𝐌𝐈 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐁𝐢𝐠 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒! 🎺

What an incredible year it's been for the JMI Youth Big Band! From embarking on our first tour to Lewes in February, to our high-profile performance at the London Jazz Festival in November to the memorable gig at Bushey United Synagogue in December (both featuring special guest Jason Yarde!), our talented young musicians have truly shone.

As we look forward to 2025, we're excited about plans for an upcoming album recording in mid-year, with a launch planned for the end of the year. Plus, we have an exciting workshop project in Peterborough this March!

We're always on the lookout for new, hungry and talented musicians to join our ranks. If you're aged 11-19 and passionate about jazz and contemporary music, book a free taster session by emailing [email protected].

Come be a part of our musical journey! 🎶
