The JMI Youth Big Band, directed by Sam Eastmond (Tzadik/Spike Orchestra), performed at a sold out Vortex Jazz Club in London last Sunday 10th December. It was the JMI Youth Big Band's 4th concert this year and coincided with the 4th Candle of Chanukah.
It is a fundamental principle in the pedagogy of the JMI Youth Big Band that musicians are able to express themselves and develop their individuality, whilst at the same time playing and learning Jewish Jazz together.
As we look forward with both pride and inspiration to the year ahead, we would like to share with you the outstanding brilliance of our young musicians with the bright light of raw talent that is Ben Krauss on Trombone performing Sam Eastmond's arrangement of Maoz Tzur.

Songs Of My Grandfathers
JMI Online are proud to bring you: “Songs of my Grandfathers” for this pre-High Holyday special concert.
Two grandfathers, both songwriters and as successful in their time as Andrew Lloyd Webber and Stephen Sondheim are today. Michael Alexander Willens, founder and conductor of the Kölner Akademie, is proud to be the grandson of both Alexander Olshanetsky and Herman Yablokoff. Both were among the most successful songwriters composing music for Yiddish theater musicals in New York during the first half of the 20th century.
Recorded as a live concert at Shalom-Musik.Koeln 2022, Michael Alexander Willens, brings these musical memories to life with this tribute to the music of his grandfather’s with a Broadway-style show band, featuring Mark Kovnatsky on Violin.
