Community based choirs and music groups could be an ideal place for Social Prescribers to connect with, but there are lots of practicalities to consider so this a system that works well for everyone. This bursary was founded in memory of Hazel Briton and Sandra Jackson-Bass, former members of Linlithgow Ladies Choir. We make one award per year (this year set at £350), which may be used toward any costs connected to the recipient working towards their musical goals (for example, this might include purchase of an instrument or sheet music, tuition fees, travel costs or expenses to take part in development opportunities, or anything else the applicant feels would be useful to their development).

Music groups and musicians are invited to join the Highlands' first Cultural Assembly in Inverness on Wednesday 16 September, with Fiona Dalgetty of Fèis Rois confirmed as its first Convener.

The Assembly has been created as a permanent cultural forum for collaboration, knowledge sharing and collective action, to shape the future of arts and culture in the Highlands. It will bring together creative practitioners, arts organisations and cultural bodies from across the Highland Council region.

They are keen to ensure the Assembly reflects the breadth and diversity of the region’s cultural community, and encourage anyone interested in taking part to register their interest.

The Highlands' first Cultural Assembly takes place at the Drumossie Hotel, Inverness, 9.30am to 4.30pm on Wednesday 16 September.

Fiona Dalgetty of Fèis Rois has been confirmed as Convener of the Highlands’ first Assembly, which will take place in Inverness on Wednesday 16 September.

The Assembly aims to bring together artists, creative practitioners, arts organisations and cultural bodies from across the region to help shape the future of arts and culture in the Highlands while creating a stronger, collective voice for the sector.

Anyone interested in taking part is encouraged to register their interest. Limited funding support to offset loss of earnings is available to enable full-time self-employed artists to attend.

According to a VisitScotland survey, 88% of Scots believe it is important that Scottish traditional music is preserved for future generations. Making Music members are a key part of making sure this happens - More than 25% of Scottish members told us that their main or one of their main repertoire genres was traditional music.

The Scottish Government have announced that a new National Performing Company will be set up to champion Scotland’s traditional music sector. But is this the right support for our valued traditions, and what more could be done? A public consultation has been launched so you can voice your opinions on what Government support for traditional music should look like.
