This page collects and shares information about screening opportunities, dance film festivals, funding sources and other dancefilm-related information. Some tips on how to get the most out of this page:
Visit the page, or check your profile's page feed, to find and share updates on dance film festivals and screenings, alerts to festivals inviting submissions, as well as funding opportunities and r

esidencies. If you are a festival programmer, provide residencies or funding, do feel free to message me and to post your information here - your posts will appear in a column on the left of the screen. If you are a filmmaker, dance artist or other creative, I don't publicise individual films, but if you've got an event or screening coming up, do let me know and I'll happily share. Or perhaps you have a question you want to put out there - feel free to post them to this page, or send me a message and I can post on your behalf. We've previously had questions about universities in Europe which offer dance film courses, online writing about dance film, and a series of making-of videos. If you've got other ideas of what you'd like to see here, please say! Also have a look at the 'Notes' section, where there is more information about the page, and a list of online articles about dance film. I hope you find it useful, and wish you all the very best for your current and future projects. It is part of the Video Dance project by Anticorpi XL Italy. Every year, the Anticorpi XL network of Italian dance organisations presents a current programme of dance films, which is free to attend and tours to a number of cities; it culminates in a dedicated workshop for choreographers and filmmakers. The AnticorpiXL network exists to support dance makers in Italy. http://www.anticorpi.org/

Inviting UK student dance films!
The Leeds International Film Festival Screendance Competition will again present a student ‘curtain-raiser’ film as part of the 2025 LIFF screendance programme: a specially selected UK student film that opens the screening.

We are looking for work up to 10 minutes which combines dance, movement and/or choreography with film.
To submit a film, upload it to Vimeo or YouTube and complete this Google form by Mon 25 August.
Form URL: https://forms.gle/rYdu9rFu7irVyi6S9
NOTE: to be eligible, films have to own the copyright to all aspects of the film, including any music tracks used. A YouTube licence for music tracks is not sufficient.

LIFF has waived submission fees for students, if they submit their film to us directly, not through to the usual online LIFF channels (FilmFreeway).
This means they will not be eligible for the £500 prize as this would not be fair to those who have paid to submit their film. (If students think they are in with a chance of winning, then they can choose to go through the usual LIFF channels and pay the submission fee.)
If you have any questions please contact Andy Wood at [email protected].

LA NOSTALGIE DU FUTUR
Dance film screening at Cinéma Le Trianon with Ciné Corps - Page curated by Gitta Wigro and Virginie Combet

Despite all the exhortations to “be in the present”, we also live in our memories and premonitions, all the time.
Seven films from all over the world explore different kinds of human time: longing for a future; dwelling on a past; feeling the present. These are not easy answers of how to be; they are shifting dreams of community, family, and possibilty.
An invitation to remain sensitive to the surprises of the future.

This film screening will be preceded by a dance performance by Acadian artist Monique Léger, echoing and responding to the programming.

Wed 11 October 2023
13.00-17.00 BST, Zoom, free
An informal sharing of research and explorations from the artists studying on the MA Screendance.
The current cohort will offer enquiries they made as part of their work on the course, and invite joint discussion and conversation.
Papers and video essays introduce and examine a variety of salient topics: dance in social media; analysing mainstream media through a screendance lens; and questioning the tropes and boundaries of screendance.

This conversational ‘mini-symposium’ is free to attend and open to all who are curious about screendance.
