Colour has always been central to my work and invariably is the initial inspiration for a new project. It is what really moves me; the fantastic array of hues in rust, a thunderous Prussian blue sky or the sumptuous crimson of an amaryllis. I love playing with contrasts and like to push pigments to evoke a real sense of emotion. The thrill of applying paint to a surface is just so exciting. With b

old washes and thick textured brush marks I love to explore the possibilities that can be achieved with each media and often mix them too to find new methods. I am always prepared to fail and actually without this acceptance, I would never move forward. I work in acrylic, pastel and watercolour at the moment. All three media allow me to develop work quickly. I paint a range of subject matter; landscape, trees, wildlife, architecture, still life and abstract, but are all unified by a bold approach and are all underpinned by solid drawing and observation.

I’m delighted to share a new painting fresh from my studio today. My apologies for the long wait, I have been mostly engaged in printmaking recently. I’ll continue to divide my time going forward with both these beloved disciplines. I hope you’re all well! X

Thank you all for such a heartwarming response to my last post, it means so much to have your support.

I mentioned that I have been printmaking pretty solidly in preparation for the first Print Fair East on October 4th which will be held here in Bury St Edmunds. I have always loved printmaking and it’s been a joy to devote my time to it, whilst mending from trauma. I can’t wait to showcase my linocuts at the event.

I am delighted to share further news with you all that 2 of my linocuts have been selected for the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers International Original Print Exhibition. ‘Heirloom II’ and ‘Heirloom V’ will be on show from Thursday 6th November – Sunday 16th November, 11am-6pm daily at The Bankside Gallery, London. It’s an honour to be exhibiting alongside so much talent and I’m very grateful thanks to the selectors!

This year has been profoundly like no other and in the process of grieving for my dear Dad, I have felt more connected to his cherished belongings and those of my family. Having stumbled upon a treasure trove of my maternal Grandma’s handmade lace and embroidery, I felt her skilled hands holding the delicate fragments. They are a deeply personal and they have informed a series of 8 prints so far. I wanted to explore the fragility and beauty of this legacy of heirlooms; I love their creases, repairs, breaks and tears; each holding a part of her story. They were cherished and used by my grandparents, while they made a loving home for their 2 daughters during the war years. The concentric patterns of loops and knots are perfect for carving, using the thinnest of tools and extreme patience. Each 8 x 8 inch print has taken between 3- 5 days solid carving and I loved every moment. I have several more to explore!

Apologies for my silence recently. I’ve had a few set backs which have sadly kept me away from painting. I suffered 14 wasp stings having disturbed a nest at ground level, which has left me feeling rather wafty ..and it happened just as I was recovering from a spectacular fall on uneven cobbles. I’m alright, just picking up some energy again.

I thought therefore that it was about time I reshared something. So here is ‘Weathered Meadow’ 100 x 100cm acrylic on canvas. It’s inspired by the subtle change in the seasons and it’s available to view at London Contemporary Art.

I’ll have more fresh work to share soon and have also been busy printmaking in readiness for an exciting print fair that will be held on 4th October in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk… more of that in the next post. Thankfully, I can keep busy with my linocuts at the kitchen table.

These 6 fresh canvases are all carefully packed and are currently being couriered to the wonderful London Contemporary Art. They will be available to view from the end of week. The gallery will be very happy to help with all enquiries.

My paintings will also be featured, along with so many other talented artists, in LCAs curated collection ‘The Heart’s Ripple’, showcasing work exploring the theme of water. The preview night is on the 19th June from 6pm. My sincere thanks to Lawson, Andrew and Ysabel.
