Our next workshop for April, bring your instincts with you! 🐅🦘🦁🐾🐞

Creating a Character through Animal Work:
A Lecoq-based Physical Theatre Workshop

This intensive workshop invites performers, dancers and anyone who would like to explore the transformative practice of animal embodiment as a gateway to character creation.

Rooted in the pedagogy of Jacques Lecoq, the workshop explores how observing and physically embodying animals can unlock new layers of presence, rhythm, and imagination in performance. Participants will move beyond psychological approaches to building a character and instead discover how form, weight, and impulse generate expressive and dynamic stage presence. Through guided exercises, participants will develop heightened physical awareness and sensitivity, explore animal dynamics such as tension, flow, stillness, and attack, and transform animal qualities into human characters.

The workshop also engages with space, atmosphere, and natural environment as active partners, supporting the creation of physical scores that can lead to devised material.

Suitable for actors, dancers, physical theatre practitioners, and anyone interested in expanding their expressive repertoire through movement.

We are beyond thrilled to get a formal residency at El Hamra Theatre in Tunis this May - where local Tunisian performers will stage Electra Untitled!

Electra Untitled, reimagines the ancient Greek tragedy of Electra by Sophocles through a feminist and q***r lens, shedding light on how patriarchy and gender-based violence echo through generations and cultures. Electra Untitled emerged through a collaborative, research-driven process rooted in physical theatre, dance and lived experience. The creation began in 2022 at The Place Resolution Festival as part of practice based research at Guildhall School of Music & Drama with an exploration of the original myth of Electra from Sophocles in a dialogue with the Flies of J. P. Sartre focusing on themes of grief, justice, GBV, inherited trauma, and the female/q***r body as a site of resistance. The process integrates a visual composition of live sound, dance and puppetry - developed in parallel with rehearsals to ensure the scenography and soundscape evolved organically from the performer's collective body.

🌻Our next workshop in March in London, UK 🎭

Neutral Mask and The Poetic Body

During this 5 hours workshop performers will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the process of embodiment and work with the Neutral Mask of J. Lecoq.

We will explore the ‘fundamental journey’ diving into personal and collective landscapes of our bodies - from the sea to the desert - and create dialogues between body, imagination, mind, heart and the poetic dimensions of our selves. We will try to (re) discover the relationship between our physical bodies and our poetic bodies and how these discoveries can live as constructions in the theatrical space.

📍Theatre Deli, 107 Leadenhall Street, EC3A 4AF
📆Saturday, 21 of March
🕣10am-3pm

Cost: full £55
students/ concessions £35
Limited spaces available

To book a space, please send us an email at [email protected]

💫The workshop will be open to anyone and no previous theatre experience will be required. Suitable for performers, actors, dancers, theatre makers and or anyone is interested in using embodiment through mask work in their personal development.

FALLING

FALLING (English version)

FALLING is an experiential workshop of embodied research that focuses on human patterns of movement, resistance, and coexistence. It draws from the choreographic practice of the new performance FALLING CITY currently in development by Vertebra Theatre and from the surrealistic spaces of domestically by Dorothea Tanning. The starting point of the workshop is falling, not as a failure, but as an embodied pattern of transformation: a moment of disorientation that activates memory, instinct, and the body’s capacity for change. In a world that prioritizes stability, control, and progress, the workshop proposes falling as a field of new knowledge.

Through somatic and choreographic practices, participants are invited to observe the recurring patterns of balance and resistance carried within their bodies, as well as the rhythms and small movements that organize their everyday presence in space. The process evolves from individual bodily awareness to collective experience.

Falling gradually shifts from a personal event into a collective choreography through safe falling techniques, transitions to the floor, improvisation, and group movement scores. Bodies encounter one another’s patterns, recognize them, imitate them, or deconstruct them, generating new geometries of relation and movement in the space.
FALLING creates a space where human patterns can meet, collide, and transform, revealing new ways of coexisting.

The workshop is free and open to dancers, choreographers, actors, directors, writers, dramaturgs, scenographers and anyone who is interested to explore artistically ideas around falling and their creative possibilities in their work.
