For this week’s , we head to one of Portugal’s finest - Arda Recorders ; a multi-studio complex for recording, mixing and mastering.
Arda’s founders have an extensive history in the recording industry, and they’ve used this knowledge to build a complex from the ground up that provides artists with the best possible environment for creating and recording their projects. This place breathes music, with 6 independent studios and all the amenities you need for working away from home.
Studio A is a top-of-the-line, 140m2 tracking studio centred around a vintage Neve 8068, complemented with preamps and signal processing from Undertone Audio, Spectra 1964, Coil Audio, Highland Dynamics, Retro Instruments, API and more. The live room houses a fantastic Fazioli F278 grand piano and there’s also a dedicated vocal booth, two further iso booths and an echo chamber. Studio B is great for recording and mixing all kinds of music and features another Neve; this one a 32 channel 5088, alongside a mid-sized live room and a shared mic and backline collection with Studio A. Studio C was designed for lower budgets and vocal/overdub sessions, offering a generous vocal booth and video feed for voiceover work.
In addition to the 3 main rooms, the facility also includes two recently added mix rooms and a mastering suite, so the complex has everything you need to take your project from writing to release. There’s lots of chill-out and recreational space on offer, including a cafeteria that doubles up as a drum tracking room after hours, for those chasing the huge drum sounds.
Based in a trendy area of Porto, there’s plenty to see and do in your downtime. The city is known for its stately bridges and port wine production, and has long drawn in visitors with its cafe culture, historic buildings, fine wines, and old-Europe charm. There’s a huge street art scene, and that combined with the incredible architecture makes it a great place to explore!
