The Playground Theatre is deeply saddened to share the news of the loss of the great dramatic ballerina Lynn Seymour on the eve of her 84th birthday. Lynn was the Theatre's first patron and actually suggested the name The Playground, after conversations with founder and co-artistic director, actor Peter Tate about his aspirations for the new studio to be a home for artists to experiment across various genres without the pressure to produce product. Much valuable work was created here before subsequently becoming The Playground Theatre in 2017.

A consummate artist in the world of dance and theatre, Lynn was a great believer in the act of creation and the ability to experiment in pursuit of that goal, and so was totally supportive of the underlying objectives of The Playground. As well as the many legendary ballets created for her, as the muse to Britain's two most famous choreographers, she never shied away but embraced work that was considered controversial and sometimes outrageous, as she was always artistically hungry for new ways of expressing.

She herself was a talented choreographer and was artistic director of both the Munich Opera Ballet and the Greek National Ballets. Artist, Mentor, Friend, Inspiration

She will be greatly missed but always remembered.

Naomi Sorkin

Ballerina who inspired new works from Kenneth MacMillan and Frederick Ashton and loved to dance with Rudolf Nureyev

Accommodation requested for visiting musicians:

Looking for kind and friendly locals who would be happy to house French classical musicians (the Tana String Quartet) Sunday 25th Sept- Sunday 2nd Oct. They will be performing at The Playground Theatre in Latimer Road as part of a new opera Army of Lovers.
You don't have to have room for them all, although that would be great! If you can spare room for 1 or more musicians, it would be greatly appreciated. There is a small budget to help with costs. They are quiet and considerate guests, and you will be supporting a local charity.
Hosts will receive complementary tickets to a performance, and an exclusive opportunity to meet the cast and creative team. And you get the chance to listen to world class musicians practice in your own home!
If you have space or would like to discuss the project, please email anthony at [email protected] or call 07956541703. Thank you.
