The Agency of Change is now an independent charity.

Read the full statement below. We can't wait for this next chapter.

Creativity is power. And today, it's also a charity!
The Agency of Change is now an independent charity, led by the very people it was built for.

This model was brought to the UK in 2013 through a partnership between Battersea Arts Centre - BAC , Contact and People's Palace Projects, inspired by the work of Brazilian theatre maker and activist Marcus Faustini in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. It was built on a single conviction: that young people from underserved communities should have the resources to lead change where they live. That conviction is now the foundation of an independent organisation.

Since 2013, more than 900 young people have become Agents across the UK. They've launched 277+ social enterprises and community projects, created 167 jobs and reached over 41,000 community members — tackling knife crime, mental health, social isolation and unemployment. Not as beneficiaries. As leaders.

Today we also welcome the board that will lead this next chapter. Saad Eddine Said joins as Chair of the Board. As CEO of New Art Exchange, Saad led the institution to become the first cultural organisation globally to embed a Citizen Assembly in its governance.

Alumni Agents Henrietta Imoreh and Aaron Omotosho join as Trustees alongside Rosie Hunter Executive Director from Peoples Palace People's Palace Projects and Tarek Iskander CEO and Artistic Director of Battersea Arts Centre - BAC

This isn't the end of a journey, it's the structure that lets us take it further.

The next chapter starts now. Young people are already leading it and we hope that you will join us.

Creativity is power. It's time we all acted like it.

Alongside A Public Address, we have commissioned local photographer Steve Reeves to take a series of photos of people in the borough.

All the people photographed are part of the four-week takeover, whether they work at a cafe where we’ve been hosting conversations between strangers for No Such Thing, or they’ve contributed to The people of Lavender Hill, a self-guided audio tour from people who work on the high street.

They could be making a speech from BAC’s balcony tomorrow, and becoming part of the interactive exhibition The Rooms this weekend. Or they could be one of the workers in 12 Last Songs, a 12-hour show that invites more than 30 workers from the borough to the stage.

Across these four events, A Public Address makes space for people to assemble as we ask: who gets heard in a place like this today?

1. Pastor Freddie at his church in Tooting
2. Aiste training dogs on Clapham Common

A Public Address is a co-production between Quarantine and Battersea Arts Centre - BAC as part of Welcome to Wandsworth, London Borough of Culture. London Borough of Culture is a Mayor of London initiative.
