Founded in 1950 as London Festival Ballet by the great English dancers Alicia Markova and Anton Dolin, it has been at the forefront of ballet’s growth and evolution ever since. English National Ballet brings world class ballet to the widest possible audience through performances across the UK and on eminent international stages; its distinguished orchestra, English National Ballet Philharmonic; its digital platforms; as a leader in creative learning and engagement practice, building innovative partnerships to deliver flagship programmes such as Dance for Parkinson’s; and through talent development initiatives including Ballet Futures which looks to create a more diverse future for the artform. English National Ballet continues to add ground-breaking new works to its repertoire whilst celebrating the tradition of great classical ballet, gaining acclaim for artistic excellence and creativity. 2019 saw the Company enter a new chapter with a move to a purpose-built state-of-the-art home in east London, allowing a renewed commitment to creativity, ambition, and connection to more people, near and far, than ever before.

Where poetry meets dance… ❤️

We were delighted to welcome author Olivia Poetess into the rehearsal studio for Nureyev’s Romeo & Juliet, where she met with Lead Principals Emma Hawes and Aitor Arrieta to explore the story through movement, words and emotions.

"It was a dream to be swept into the English National Ballet rehearsal rooms and absorb living, breathing poetry. My first professional acting job was the role of Juliet, so these characters hold a special place in my heart."

Inspired by their conversations and time together in the studio, Olivia brought the worlds of dance and poetry together in a beautiful creative exchange✨

The more I have, for both are infinite"

Something exciting is on the horizon 💫

We’re thrilled to be creating a major new outdoor dance work for Royal Docks Originals 2027, a free arts and culture festival celebrating the creativity and diversity of our local communities.

Working with Project Artistic Director Jeanefer Jean-Charles MBE and Lead Choreographer Jenna Lee, this ambitious commission will bring together English National Ballet dancers and over 500 local community and professional performers to celebrate the people, stories and spirit of East London through dance ❤️

Reflecting on a very special project 💗

The Thread Between Us brought together over 100 dancers from our Dance for Parkinson’s hubs across the UK, drawing inspiration from Akram Khan’s Giselle and its themes of labour, community and connection.

Created by people across our hubs in London, Liverpool, Cardiff, Ipswich and Oxford, this poignant film celebrates the power of dance to connect us, bring us together and create a sense of belonging.

A new chapter 📖

We are delighted to announce the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton as the latest hub partner for our flagship Dance for Parkinson’s programme, bringing weekly dance classes to people living with Parkinson’s from January 2027.

We have five exciting taster classes taking place at the Mayflower Studios weekly from 4 Nov – 2 Dec, before the full term begins in the new year.
