[email protected] +44 (0)20 7087 9300 www.thephotographersgallery.org.uk The Photographers' Gallery was founded in London’s Covent Garden in 1971 and was the first public gallery in the UK dedicated to the medium. Over the years it has introduced such international photographers as Juergen Teller, Robert Capa, Sebastião Salgado, Andreas Gursky and Taryn Simon to British audiences, whilst championing

the work of home based practitioners including Martin Parr, Zineb Sedira, Nick Knight and Corinne Day.

In May 2012, after an ambitious two-year redevelopment to offer new and enhanced spaces for exhibitions, learning, retail and social activities, The Photographers’ Gallery re-opened in its new home in Ramillies Street, Soho, London. It continues to present a diverse and critically acclaimed public-programme of exhibitions, events, talks, workshops and courses that encourage deeper engagement with, and learning through the photographic medium.

Nicholas Hughes: Uncertain Silence will be drawing to a close next weekend!

Don't miss your chance to view the layered landscapes of the natural world in our latest Print Sales Gallery exhibition.

Nicholas Hughes examines the space between the world we live in and what nature still claims as its own. In an era of always-on news and potential desensitisation, the beauty of these works draws us in, allowing an underlying tension to unfold and prompt more urgent reflection.

Uncertain Silence closes Sunday 28 June!

Join us next Thursday 25 June for an evening with photographer Matthew Connors as he launches his new book, The Axe Will Survive the Master. He will be in conversation with artist and educator Max Ferguson.

The Axe Will Survive the Master is an oblique record of life on a faltering planet. Created over twelve years and across continents, his photographs trace the contours of an era shaped by confrontations with authoritarian power. From the Arab Spring to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Connors traverses scenes of global upheaval marked by disintegrating social contracts, political violence, and the lingering reverberations of the Cold War.

His images move between the geopolitical and the intimate, drawn as much from the fabric of daily life as from the front lines of history. They depict a world defined by conflict and uncertainty, yet charged with beauty, threat, and consequence.

Lisa Barnard: The Canary and The Hammer is still on display for free in our Soho Photography Quarter!

The display is an exploration of the troubled history of gold, our reverence for it and its role in our endless pursuit of progress and wealth.

In this video, Lisa discusses the story behind her image, Motherboard, Hong Kong, 2016

Photographed across four years and four continents, the project was prompted by the 2008 financial crisis. Barnard brings together contrasting yet intertwined stories, from ecological destruction and human exploitation in mining, to gold’s importance as an invisible component in medicine and technology.
