IAS Artist Spotlight: Nazma Kabir

An amateur artist since retirement from a full-time job in 2016, Nazma rediscovered her passion for painting, first inspired during her school years.

After a long gap due to academic, professional, and family commitments, she now works regularly in acrylics, pastel pencils, and especially watercolour, which she has embraced since 2019.

Deeply inspired by nature, Nazma focuses on capturing the beauty of landscapes, cityscapes, seascapes, still lives and sometimes abstract.

She has exhibited her work in London, New York, and Bangladesh, and actively participates in different art societies in London. Currently, she divides her time between these three locations, sharing her artwork with diverse audiences.

IAS Artist Spotlight: Theresa Pateman

After studying at Thurrock and Coventry School of Art & Design, Theresa began working as a freelance illustrator using linocut, monoprint, and etching techniques. With fellow graduates, she received a Prince’s Trust Grant to set up a silk screen workshop before establishing her own etching studios at Kingsgate Workshops, Kilburn.

In 2010, she co-founded Printmakers Inc., a collective that continues to exhibit at art fairs and group shows. She now teaches printmaking at Hampstead School of Art and in her London studio.

A member of Southbank Printmakers and the Printmakers Council, her work has been shown across the UK β€” including the Royal Academy, Mall Galleries, and Barbican β€” and is held in collections at the V&A, Metropolitan University, and internationally.

IAS Artist Spotlight: Evgenia Osmani

Evgenia is a London-based artist working primarily in oils, painting still lifes and landscapes, with portraiture as her true inspiration β€” capturing the subtle emotions and character of the human face.

Before dedicating herself to art in 2018, she built her creative career as a graphic designer at Grey Worldwide, working on global brands including Nokia, Visa, Aquafresh, and Fairy, and later continued in fashion and publishing.

She honed her fine art practice under the guidance of artist Nataliya Zozulya, a former professor of painting at the Ukrainian National Academy of Fine Art and Architecture, developing a traditional painterly style grounded in observation and expressive realism.

IAS Artist Spotlight: Tahira Tofa

Tahira is a London-based portrait artist and founder of YSDNDYart (Your Skin Does Not Define You). Her work explores the power of portraiture to challenge racial bias, dismantle stereotypes, and foster deeper human understanding.

By stripping her portraits of natural skin tones, she invites viewers into a realm where identity transcends pigmentation, encouraging reflection beyond the labels often imposed on us.

Working primarily with oil pastels and layered colour chosen intuitively, each portrait reflects her emotional landscape while highlighting our shared humanity. Through bold and unexpected colours, Tahira reimagines the human face to question preconceptions and create moments of emotional recognition that connect the viewer with the artist.

IAS Artist Spotlight: Ismail Ucci

Ismail works across drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, and sculpture. Guided by a lifelong fascination with colour, still life, and harmony, his practice reflects years of bold experimentation and spiritual inquiry.

After three years of study in observational drawing at the Royal Drawing School, he established his studio in 2022 and hosted his first open studio that autumn.

For Ismail, painting and drawing are meditationsβ€”ways to express the poetry of human experience through nature. Each work begins with intuition and evolves through constant transformation: sketching, erasing, reimagining, and rediscovering what feels alive on the surface.

IAS Artist Spotlight: Chris Baker

Chris is a watercolourist, describing watercolours as a wonderful but sometimes underrated and capricious medium. The aim is to make vibrant, colourful and sparkling paintings! "There's so much that's challenging and yet lots of enjoyment to be had".

Chris is based in North London but loves to get out further afield with a sketchbook and a camera (later using Photoshop).

"I've been lucky enough to have work shown in a couple of Central London galleries and with the Islington Arts Society. I contribute annually to the Highgate Watercolour Group exhibition at Lauderdale House in Highgate, London."
