Artist spotlight: Nazma Kabir
Nazma's relationship with painting began in her school years, when she first discovered the quiet joy of expressing ideas and emotions through colour and form.
After many years devoted to academic, professional, and family commitments, she returned to painting following her retirement in 2016. What began as a rediscovery of an old passion has gradually become an important and fulfilling part of her life. She works primarily in watercolour and acrylic, with pastel pencils also part of her practice, and since 2019 has developed a particular affinity for watercolour's luminosity, spontaneity, transparency, and the element of unpredictability that often brings a painting to life.
Nature and the world around her provide an enduring source of inspiration. Rather than simply reproducing what she sees, Nazma enjoys interpreting a subject through colour, light, atmosphere, and mood, allowing each painting to become a personal response to a place, moment, or feeling.
Her work has been exhibited in London, New York, and Bangladesh, and she is actively involved with several art societies in London. Dividing her time between these three places continually exposes her to different landscapes, cultures, and visual experiences that enrich her artistic journey.
