Looking back at past collaborations including this beautiful project with the Talented Photographer and Stylist with The Royal Ballet ▪️➰

“The aesthetic beauty of the dancers form has long been a source inspiration for artists and photographers. Over the years The Royal Ballet has amassed a vast collection of images of the company in studio rehearsals and on stage in the opulent splendour of the Royal Opera House.

When Rick Guest took the dancers out of their familiar setting, he captured something new, vital and raw for the 21st century. His fusion of fashion, dance and art conveys the majestic athleticism of the dancer while at the same time revealing the psyche of each individual artist. The stark palette of black and white, of light and shadows, isolates and intensifies each subject t and allows their personality to be communicated directly to us.

Away from the recognisable accoutrements of ballet, nothing distracts from our appreciation of the gesture, of the body in motion. There is immediacy about these portraits selected in the title chosen by Rick for this body of work. ‘The Language of the Soul’,a quote by choreographer and dancer Martha Graham, speaks to contemporary fashion and photography as well as dance.

These fleeting moments in time, captured so strikingly by Rick Guest and stylist Olivia Pomp, came together at an exhibition at the Hospital Club in Covent Garden in 2013. Some of the dancers have since moved from the Royal Ballet and Rick has continued his discovery the art form with other companies, but how wonderful that the ephemeral beauty of this moment in time is now caught for posterity in this sumptuous book”
