Did you know Kendrick Lamar sampled Gil Scott-Heron and Brian Jackson’s “Peace Go With You, Brother (As-Salaam-Alaikum)” on “Poe Mans Dreams (His Vice)” from his 2011 album Section.80?

In a recent Listening Session, resident selector dedicates 1.5 hours to the godfather of rap and soul-jazz poetry, Gil Scott-Heron in ’ Listening Room at @180.Studios.

Iqbal traces Gil Scott-Heron’s journey from Harlem to the birth of hip-hop and brings up the story of his father, Celtic FC’s first Black footballer. As well as this, he explores his collaborative relationship with Brian Jackson and appreciates the importance of protest throughout his catalogue of work.

The Listening Room is an ongoing series in which artists, selectors and writers explore music through focused listening and archival research.

Have you spotted the “pangolin” on The Strand yet?

Located next to 180 Studios on the pedestrianised Strand Aldwych, this year’s London Design Festival (London Design Festival) landmark project, The Pangolin Shield by .Design and .One, explores Britain and India’s colonial history through a bamboo-grid pavilion covered in shields, symbols of both protection and aggression.

Named after, and inspired by the appearance of, the pangolin, the scaly mammal, the pavilion stands on the newly pedestrianised section of The Strand near India House. According to Studio Saar co-founder Ananya Singhal, the location played a significant role in shaping the project.

180 Resident and jewellery designer has teamed up with on a new Made in UK 991v1.

The campaign sees English horticulturist and broadcaster exploring The Flimby Garden, a private garden designed by Bleue Burnham for the New Balance factory in Cumbria. Conceived as a restorative space for employees, the garden brings together craft, nature and wellbeing.

The limited-edition 991v1 arrives in pinecone brown suede with secondary lime-green laces, launching exclusively at bleueburnham.com on 12 September, with early access for the Bleue Burnham mailing list.

DJ, broadcaster and Listening Room resident takes us on a deep dive into Príncipe Discos (), the Lisbon-based record label reshaping dance music, in ’ Listening Room at @180.Studios.

Born in the neighbourhood of Quinta do Mocho, Príncipe Discos is home to a community of producers from Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Angola, making some of the most raw, percussive, and forward-thinking electronic music on the planet.
