There are moments when a single image carries the weight of an entire conversation. Leaving the Lee Miller exhibition at the , I couldn’t help but wonder: how many visual testimonies does it take for history to stop repeating itself?

Stepping into feels less like a visit, more like crossing into a memory suspended in time.

I was struck by the intimacy, the energy held in every object. As if he stepped out for a moment and never found the way back, the absence felt heavily settled into the dust.

Nothing is staged. Nothing disturbed. The house has remained untouched for decades, carefully guarding its memory.

Charlotte’s voice walks with you, soft, intimate, but protective. Guiding your attention to details you might have missed, not to reveal, but to honor.

A place that carries the weight of a singular presence, one that left an indelible trace on the contours of cultural history.

At the , the drawings from Thèmes et variations felt less like finished images than a record of looking.

Henri Matisse distinguishes between the worked theme and the variation, drawn in a single continuous line, without correction. What appears effortless is in fact the result of extraordinary sensitivity.

“I am led, I do not lead.”

I kept returning to that phrase. It suggests a way of working, and perhaps a way of collecting, guided not by assertion, but by attention, where form reveals itself through process.

Seen together, the drawings unfold almost cinematically, each sheet carrying thought forward.

There is something quietly akin to this in wine. The finest vignerons often speak less of intervention than of following—reading a season, responding to a site, allowing the grapes their own expression.

Perhaps in both, refinement lies not in control, but in knowing how to follow.

Tasting in Burgundy unfolds over time.

The first impression rarely holds. What matters is duration…how a wine expands, contracts, repositions itself.

It recalls the experience of looking: certain works resist immediacy, requiring attention rather than reaction.

There is no spectacle here. Only gradual revelation.

In that sense, Burgundy rewards a collector’s instinct, the ability to wait, to return, to reconsider.

In Burgundy, terroir is often described. It is more interesting to consider it as composition.

A shift in soil, limestone to clay, a few meters apart alters structure, balance, tension.

The logic feels almost painterly.

One is reminded of how a surface holds its own internal order: the density of a Courbet landscape, or the instability of matter in a canvas by Chaim Soutine.

Nothing here is uniform. Everything depends on nuance.

Burgundy resists generalisation. It insists on looking closely.
