Owned and managed by musician Steve Rubie since 1976, the 606 Club was founded to present the best UK-based jazz, soul, blues, R&B, Latin, singer/songwriter and groove artists. Join us as we celebrate our 50th Anniversary with an All-Star series of performances from Monday the 12th to Sunday the 25th of October!

Our programme has been curated by Steve to reflect not just his personal connection with each of the musicians, but also to showcase the unique relationships between them, as described in this introduction written by Steve himself:

"There are few artists who are considered to be more 606 family than UK Jazz Royalty Liane Carroll. I first came across her in the early/mid 90’s and by the end of the evening was convinced that we had just heard a new star, and so it turned out to be. Since then she has appeared at the Club on innumerable occasions and has gone on to establish herself as one of the UK’s finest performers. I have been running my Brazilian band Samara since the old Club and we have a lot of fun playing Brazilian MPB. This gig is dedicated to our friends from Samara who are no longer with us, Ugo Delmirani and Dill Katz. The brilliant “Wonder of Stevie” features the great saxophonist Derek Nash and remarkable vocalist Noel McCalla and we all just love this gig. All the members of the band have been stalwarts at the Club for many years, including pianist Neil and drummer Nic from Samara who are also the rhythm section of choice for Derek and Noel!"

The first artist ever to win two BBC Jazz Awards in the same year, for Best Vocalist and Best of Jazz, Liane Carroll is a dynamic performer whose amazing talent has been captivating audiences around the world.

Samara, featuring the brilliant Brazilian vocalist Carolina Lelis alongside the powerful piano of Neil Angilley take you on a road trip around Brazil. Hear the stories behind some classic songs as they perform an infectious blend of Brazilian Samba, Baião, jazz & Latin.

Two of the UK's finest musicians, saxophonist Derek Nash and singer Noel McCalla Music celebrate the music of the great Stevie Wonder. An award-winning saxophonist Derek is perhaps best known as one of the saxophonists with the Jools Holland Band and Noel first came to prominence in the mid 80’s with the seminal Jazz/funk band Morrissey/Mullen before spending almost 20 years with Manfred Mann’s “Earth Band”.

"I first met Earl Okin at the old Club back in the 1970’s, several years before I actually took it over. With his hat and spats, always dapper and immaculately turned out, he was one of the first musicians I ever heard playing in that tiny, dingy, basement in the Kings Road. Still performing today at the highest level he is one of the last links to those early days and no 606 Club Festival could possibly be complete without him. Also on this afternoon’s bill is the wonderful singer and very good friend Rachel Sutton. Back in the day Sunday afternoons were a time for recovery! However, as the Club matured and expanded its horizons here at Lots Road more and more people asked if they could bring their young children. Sunday afternoon seemed the perfect time for that and the Sunday afternoon sessions were born. And one of the very first performers to appear here on a Sunday afternoon was Rachel, who has helped us turn an occasional gig in to a regular event in the Club’s programme."

For six decades, entertainer Earl Okin has delighted audiences worldwide with his unique blend of quirky comedy and first-rate jazz musicianship. His career includes touring with Paul McCartney & Wings and performing 500 times at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Trained at The Welsh College of Music and Drama, acclaimed singer Rachel Sutton captivates audiences with her rich tone and dynamic mix of American Songbook classics and original compositions. Her highly-anticipated second album, ‘Realms’, released earlier this year, was described by Jazz Views as 'utterly and completely engaging'.

The performance this evening is built around musicians all of whom have a close connection with the great pianist/composer Julian Joseph. (Steve first met Julian back in the late 90’s when his Big Band was booked for a week of rehearsals at the Club, which led to Steve playing with Julian for over 15 years...read more about that story by visiting the event page on our website.)

Julian Joseph was the first Black British jazz musician to host a series of concerts at London’s Wigmore Hall and the first to headline a late-night televised jazz performance at the BBC Proms with his All-Star Big Band amongst many other accomplishments. Movements from his orchestral suite “Symphonic Stories” have been performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Hallé and the Liverpool Philharmonic and in 2007 he branched out into opera with “Bridgetower” and then “Shadowball”. Julian received an OBE in 2018 and his Awards include the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors Gold Badge and the Ivors Academy 21st Fellowship.

A founding member of Loose Tubes whose CV includes work with Hermeto Pascoal, Gil Evans, and Django Bates, saxophonist Iain Ballamy is widely considered one of the most intriguing and creative players in jazz today. Iain won the BBC Jazz Award for Innovation and was listed among the BBC’s '100 Jazz Legends'.

A Mercury Prize nominee and multiple MOBO, BBC, and UMA award winner, saxophonist Soweto Kinch Official is one of the leading musicians of his generation. A creative player who seamlessly embraces a wide variety of styles, we are excited to welcome him back to the Club.

"Well, tonight is a bit of a “mash up”. Friday nights at the Club typically feature high energy bands and artists and this evening we have both! One of the great UK saxophonists Alex Garnett definitely falls into the category of “high energy”. Alex and I go way back to when I used to play in the Big Band of his Dad, the much-loved saxophonist Willie Garnett. I remember Alex, in the 1980’s when he was around 15 years old, turning up to our regular rehearsals on a Saturday afternoon after his sax lesson and listening intently to it all. And it’s fair to say the lessons paid off! Now, some 40 years on, he is one of Europe’s leading jazz saxophonists - having performed alongside icons like Wynton Marsalis and Van Morrison - and a regular with the Ronnie Scott's All Stars.

And following Alex will be a Club favourite Friday night band and the epitome of high energy, The Coalminers. Formed by drummer/harmonica player Pat Levett and featuring the charismatic (and very tall!) Tommy Hare on vocals alongside the force of nature that is Jaelee Small, this 7-piece outfit which specialises in contemporary New Orleans-influenced Americana (think Dr John) and Blues has, over the last 10 years, firmly established themselves as a striking and popular addition to the history of the 606 Club…"

"This is an evening featuring a whole team of great musicians, all of whom have played at the Club from when they first started performing in London, becoming an integral part of what we do.

I first met Gwilym Simcock when he was a student and even then it was clear that he was very special. I vividly remember him doing a Sunday afternoon gig at the Club with the Laurence Cottle Big Band and they opened the second set, to Gwilym’s (and my) complete surprise, with one of the best versions of “Happy Birthday”, arranged by Laurie for 16 piece big band, that I’ve ever heard. It turned out that it was Gwilym’s 21st birthday and he chose to spend the first half of it playing at the Club (I didn’t enquire what he was planning for the second half!). Twenty or so years on and he is now an international artist of renown with a raft of award-winning albums and bands and work with the likes of Pat Metheny to his name…and he is still happy to play at the Club and we are certainly happy to have him here.

Similarly Quentin Collins did some of his first London gigs at the Six and has established himself as one of the UK’s finest jazz trumpet players.

His fellow bandmate, saxophonist Brandon Allen, played his first London dates here when he first arrived from Australia and has been a stalwart supporter ever since.

And then there’s Kyle Eastwood. A regular at the Club when he lived in Fulham, he has been a staunch supporter and a great friend to us over the years, changing his plans just to be with us this evening. Looking like a great night!"

"Well, no 606 Club Festival would be complete without the guitar of Jim Mullen and I thought it would be nice to build a gig around this veteran of the scene. And I have to say, it wasn’t difficult. So this evening we have not one but four great guitarists, all from different backgrounds, closely associated with the Club and keen to play with Jim and each other. With ages spanning from 30’s to late 70’s this promises to be a brilliant night of guitar-led music, which a guitarist friend of mine has christened “Guitarmageddon”!"

Nigel Price is a highly skilled guitarist as well as an accomplished composer whose swinging bebop approach combined with flawless control is a delight.

Considered one of the leading musicians of his generation, award-winning guitarist Rob Luft rose to acclaim with his debut album Riser and was named "Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year" at the 2025 Parliamentary Jazz Awards.

A founding member of Loose Tubes, guitarist John Parricelli is a highly respected studio musician renowned for his skill across jazz and pop, performing alongside stars like Annie Lennox and regularly appearing with the brilliant band from Strictly Come Dancing.

Sunday 11 October 8pm: Meg Lee

A soulful and versatile jazz & blues singer-songwriter, Meg Lee has graced stages alongside artists such as Rumer, Kat Eaton and Sarah Jane Morris. Born in Cheshire, she was inspired by Peggy Lee & Ella Fitzgerald while still in her teens and is now equally influenced by contemporary voices such as Melody Gardot and Madeline Peyroux. Bringing a contemporary edge to timeless classics, Meg is also a fine songwriter, writing and producing her own material, which has earned regional and national airplay on stations including BBC Radio 2. Her various recordings include her 2018 debut album “Meet Me” along with her follow up EP “Wintertime Thing” and her latest single, "Big Beautiful Beat” played on BBC Radio Manchester.

Known for her warm stage presence and natural charm, Meg’s style is a true mix of the old and the new and we are delighted to welcome her to the Club along with her excellent band, Dean Stockdale-piano, Fraser Smith-sax, Neville Malcolm-bass & Peter Adam Hill-drums.
