Off the Page Off the Page: Bi-monthly play readings championing emerging and established writers in SE London

05/11/2025

This Sunday 9 Nov, it’s time for another wonderful Off The Page.

Off The Page is a relaxed night of play readings designed to bring you diverse new writing read by local, professional actors. From established to emerging writers, we have some amazing talent in our community. Every other month you’ll be able to hear brand new work with an opportunity to give the writers your feedback.

This month, we present “The Powers That Be” by Melville Lovatt

A taut, dystopian thriller which grips from the start and never lets go. By turns, darkly funny and chilling. A timely reminder of what could happen if democracy disappears.

Melville Lovatt is a playwright, monologue writer and performance poet whose plays have been widely performed in fringe theatres throughout London. His full-length play, “Small Mercies” won The Jack Langford Memorial Award and The Derek Lomas Memorial Award.

Thanks to Rosie Fox for the photos.
To celebrate refugee week, we were part of a world record attempt for the most simultaneous readings or performances of A Midsummer Night's Dream. It was a LOT of fun!
We raised over £370 for Compass Collective , a wonderful charity who work with young refugees.
