Acting On Screen
Acting on Screen.The tutors have worked on Golden Globe Nominated Productions Oscar winning and British Award Winning ones too! If you would like to try your hand at screen acting, find out how to enjoy and relish it all. If you allow it, it will (and should) be a lot of fun. Students will be taught how to act on screen and the different techniques needed to accomplish these skills. *
Behind the scenes
Behind the Scenes This course will include tutors (from Golden Globe Nominated Productions and British Award Winning ones too!). If the creative multi faceted industry of film is your passion, then this course will open up the many different careers this industry has to offer and teach you the basics of putting a film together.

Hair & Make-up Make-up and Hair are key elements in the overall design of films, television & theatre productions, creating a look for the characters in relation to social class, and time periods, and any other elements required to create the desired illusion. - Period Hair styles - Period Make-up - Stage Make-up - Film Make-up - Scars & wounds - Working to a brief and deadline

Shakespeare
Shakespeare Shakespeare was not only a great poet but also a timeless dramatist. The key to appreciating Shakespeare lies in the understanding. Once this happens, enjoyment will soon follow, and taking part in a performance becomes much more rewarding. Throughout this course students will gain knowledge of the different techniques and skills needed to perform Shakespeare. They will also learn to take actions and make decisions based on their natural instincts; developing their creativity, confidence and communication.

A new 12 week course starting on the 9th January at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre.

Acting on Screen



This twelve week course is perfect for anyone who would like to develop their acting skills and explore the different techniques needed to perform on screen.

Throughout the course students will benefit from the vast experience of many special guest tutors from Golden Globe nominated and BAFTA winning productions.

All YESS tutors are CRB checked .

The course covers a wide variety of topics which include:
Audition Techniques - How to make an impression and stand out from the crowd
Sight Reading Skills - Teaching students techniques on how to confidently present themselves and interact with the camera and other actors.
Monologue Training - One to one direction and advice
Improvisation Sessions - Students learn to react rather than act, making choices based on their natural instincts and developing their creativity, confidence and communication skills
Performance Techniques - Invaluable training on how to perform in front of the camera. Screen acting techniques are very different from those required to act on the stage. This module will help the student master those skills, enabling them to build a truthful character and a well rounded performance
Who's Who on a Production - Who is the Gaffer, the Key Grip or the Boom Operator? Learn who does what on a production set.
Agents, Personal Managers and Casting Directors - Industry professionals will share their expertise and knowledge with students, giving them a true insight into what directors and agents are looking for.

Camera Techniques - Learn the different shots available and when to use them. Long shots, establishing shots, close ups and camera and lens movement

Lighting - How to use light to suggest moods and create different atmospheres in scenes. Learn how to influence the viewer’s attitude towards a particular character or setting

Sound - Learn and implement the different sound techniques including direct sound, studio sound, selective sound, sound perspective, aural perspective and wild tracks

Professional Conduct - A film set is a very busy place where time is money. Everyone has their place and work ethics and professional etiquette are very high. Students will learn the importance of team playing and working professionally and efficiently. Attributes that will benefit the student in whatever career path they decide to follow

Script Devising - Covering topics which include finding a theme, fleshing out a character, building a character arc, creating a strong narrative structure and the importance of an active protagonist

Building a Production Team - Finding each students strengths and which aspect of production is right for them

Story Boarding - Create a series of sketches of scene shots arranged in sequence to outline the action of the film

Budget Overview - It is important to work within your means and make the best of what is available to you. Students will be trained in budgeting and meeting strict production deadlines
All students will be filmed throughout the course and their performances will be analysed for constructive feedback by the class and tutors.
