The Old Vic is an independent creative powerhouse for entertainment and education. We believe that theatre makes the world better and that anyone should be able to access and experience it - to understand it, entertain it and benefit from it. We are uniquely placed to achieve all of this as a large 1,000 seat theatre in the heart of London, focusing on creating equal access. We make world-class en

tertainment on an international scale, reaching audiences of 350k+ every year through eclectic seasons of work, and a further 10,000 through free programmes for engagement, employment and social mobility. Our duality is important to us. We’re so much more than the work we do on stage. We’re about creative excellence and social good. The Old Vic: Step into something wonderful.

🎉Happy Birthday Rami Malek

Today, we're celebrating the actor whose portrayal of Oedipus earlier this year on our stage still has us awed.

🥳 It's our 207th birthday

From the nineteenth century to the twenty-first, the best thing about being London's local theatre is you, our lovely audience.

What do The Old Vic, the National Theatre, Sadler’s Wells, the Royal Ballet and English National Opera have in common? They all exist, in part, thanks to one remarkable woman.

Today we celebrate Lilian Baylis' birthday. She became manager of The Old Vic in 1898 with a mission to bring great theatre to all.

Without her, the arts landscape we know today would look very different. Her tenacity, passion and belief in the power of great theatre continues to inspire our work to this day.

In her own words, 'Dare, always dare.'

💭 ‘Eternity is a terrible thought. I mean, where’s it going to end?’

Eight years ago today, David Leveaux’s production of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead had its final performance on our stage. This iconic tale of two minor characters in Hamlet's story saw Daniel Radcliffe and Joshua McGuire unite in the title roles, with David Haig as The Player.

🎉 It's Sylvia Pankhurst's birthday today.

The revolutionary, activist and inspiration whose story we’ve had the honour to tell not once, but twice at The Old Vic.

First staged as a work-in-progress in 2018 and returning by popular demand for its full world premiere in 2023, her story continues to inspire. Here’s to her legacy.
