Placed throughout AORA are Betsy Bradley’s vigorous yet delicate paintings, which combine neons and pastels to create a cathartic experience for the viewer.

The bright pink in ‘Aurora’ here pictured presents a stark contrast to the grey and white backdrop. Through a luscious sense of gesture, form and lightness, Betsey encourages a meditative moment of play.

Entering into The Place, a sculptural work by Ben Stephenson rises from the rippling pool. The monolithic column reflects his investigation into themes of globalisation and the human impact during the Anthropocene.

In individual nooks circulating the pool are works by Betsy Bradley in the distance and to either side Liz Nielsen. The latter in particular explores the photographic process and are created without a camera using negatives light sources. ‘Painted with light’, there is a reflection to their performative nature.

Our next in conversation is between artist Reena Saini Kallat and writer Dr Cleo Roberts. Please join us WED 4 OCT 6pm GMT in this fascinating discussion about the Tensions of Storytelling. Details on www.aoraspace.com

Reena Saini Kallat is exhibiting in AORA:II with her piece, Cleft (2017), a depiction of a fantastical dimension characterized by unity. In this work, the hybridisation of the bodies of different animals and plants have a dual meaning. First, it reflects the unnatural state of the world and the new species that were engendered artificially. Also, it is the result of Reena’s desire to conjure an idealistic sphere where all elements are in unison.

Dr Cleo Roberts writes on contemporary South and South East Asian art. Her work has appeared in, among other publications, Frieze, ArtReviewAsia and ArtAsiaPacific and she's contributed to books published by Phaidon and Thames & Hudson.
