Walthamstow International Film Festival Established in 2010, Walthamstow International Film Festival exhibits films of 5 minutes and under. Covid restrictions in place. Please wear a mask.

2021 sees the 12th Annual Walthamstow International Film Festival. All short films will be shown on Saturday 10th July at The Trumans Social Club from 11.00am to 6.00pm in alphabetical order. Filmmakers will be invited to introduce their short films to the audience. Registration essential.

New Connections: Artist Filmmaker and Producer Mixer - Open for Applications

Are you an artist filmmaker working creatively with non-fiction?
Do you have a new film project in development?
Are you looking to connect with a lead producer or additional producers for your film?

This is a chance to share your work, meet producers and form new connections.

We are looking for 10 artists/filmmakers to present their creative non-fiction projects to a group of invited producers at an informal mixer event at LUX, London on Fri 11 Sep, 5pm - 9.30pm. We will ask each artist filmmaker to briefly introduce themselves and their projects and then there will be time afterwards for chatting. Rather than a formal pitch, these short presentations are designed to introduce your project, open up conversations, and create opportunities for future collaboration.

This event is organised collaboratively by BFI Doc Society, Film London Artists’ Moving Image Network (FLAMIN) and LUX.

🎬 The Star of the Show? Walthamstow.
While our three featured filmmakers have completely unique styles, they all share one vital muse: E17. Next Sunday 2nd August, we are bringing these Walthamstow stories home to The Trades Hall.

Here is how our local streets shaped the line-up:

Fletch Fletcher shoots entirely on location across Walthamstow, turning our familiar streets into a stark backdrop to explore Camus’ philosophy—confronting the advertising machine and the absolute nothingness at the heart of existence.

Charlotte Bracegirdle is a unique and authentic local artist whose award-winning short, My Paper Bag Life, beautifully maps out the realities of managing chronic illness while leveraging the rich imagination of the artist right here in our community.

Sarah Mace Dennis spent months interviewing ordinary and extraordinary residents on our high street, crafting a moving script built entirely from the real voices and memories of Walthamstow locals.

Come and see our home through their eyes. We kick off at 3pm with live filmmaker Q&As, plus local favourite Dean Brannigan keeping the energy up on the decks between screenings.

🎬 FILM AT THE TRADES: MEET THE FILMMAKERS 🎬

The countdown is on for Sunday 2nd August! We are back at The Trades Hall from 3pm to 6pm for our second FREE film screening event, celebrating contemporary life and artistry in E17.

The afternoon features brilliant short films, live introductions, an audience Q&A with the creators, and deep grooves mixed live by Dean Brannigan between the showings to keep the event moving. 🎵

Get to know the directors joining us on the day:

🧬 Fletch Fletcher (Fletch.Fletcher.E17)
Fletch translates the raw energy of Brutalist architecture into film, trading classical forms for rough textures and sharp lines. His shorts offer a gripping, social-realist look at the local gig economy, acting as a form of urban archaeology set to brutalist poetry.

🎨 Charlotte Bracegirdle
Now based in Leyton, Royal College of Art alumna Charlotte has a rich background in sculpture, painting, and performance. Heavily inspired by surrealism, collage, and horror icons like Terry Gilliam and Jan Švankmajer, she weaves these distinct textures together in her award-winning short, My Paper Bag Life.

🗣️ Sarah Mace Dennis
Sarah’s filmmaking focuses on community storytelling and breaking down unconscious biases. She has directed powerful documentary work worldwide, collaborating with diverse groups ranging from international disabled talent to our very own Walthamstow residents for her featured film, Everyday Stories of Colossal Importance.

From our very first screening at Beyca to a completely packed-out Trades Hall yesterday—what a journey it has been! 🥹❤️

For 17 years, WIFF has been bringing "Films from around the corner and Films from around the World" straight to E17. Together, we’ve shared over 1,000 stories on the big screen. 🗺️🎥

To every single filmmaker who trusted us with their art, every venue that opened its doors, and every audience member who bought a ticket: thank you for being part of our history. The future is bright, and we can’t wait to watch the next generation take the wheel! 🏎️✨
