From elegiac techno to deep orchestral pop ballads, Apparat‘s work has always had a common denominator: an elegance that embraces, offering nuanced layers of detail and beauty. Whether as a member of Moderat (whose last album More D4ta was released on Monkeytown in 2022), working alongside Ellen Allien (Orchestra of Bubbles) or as a solo performer, Apparat seeks to transcend the dance floor and the concert hall alike, focussing on the micro to enhance the macro with melodies that echo in the memory. His last studio album LP5 (2019), finds greatness in small things and unexpected twists; it joins musical fragments together and glows from the cracks in between. Released on Mute, it was described as “…a kaleidoscopic triumph” by Q Magazine. More recently, Apparat has been focused on cinema, TV and theatre production – gaining recognition and awards for work such as Capri – Revolution (dir. Mario Martone, 2018), which won Best Soundtrack at the Venice Film Festival. A box set collating these works, Soundtracks, was released on Mute in 2020.

London-based Lauren Auder is a British-French singer-songwriter, record producer and composer who stitches together elements of classical, experimental, emo, and rap music into her own strange and hypnotic form of orchestral pop music. With the likes of Celeste, Caroline Polachek, Mura Masa, Boris and Jeshi all on her credits list, as well as composing music for Virgil Abloh’s Louis Vuitton campaigns, and modelling for Marni, Gucci and Celine, Auder has cemented herself as an auteur across the worlds of music and fashion.

Italian German producer and composer returns to the on Saturday 16th May for a rare live piano performance, presenting music from new album HYMNS alongside other material.

With HYMNS, August unveils a new and deeply personal body of work that strips away the expansive electronic architectures that has defined much of his work as the focus shifts to something more direct and intimate. Written, improvised and recorded in 2021, the album marks a shift toward a more exposed musical language, one that preceded August’s 2023 Barbican performance of his previous album VĪS.

For this special solo appearance, the concert unfolds as a sequence of prepared piano improvisations shaped by live processing, evolving soundscapes and silence. The performance offers a rare opportunity to encounter August’s music in its most essential form, revealing the core sensibilities that underpin his work across both electronic and acoustic worlds.
