We are looking forward to welcoming J.R. Petrie to the bookshop on Monday, 12th October at 7pm. She will talk about the hidden heart of Tolkien's mythos, which has a strong spiritual core and an often-overlooked element of feminine spirituality.

This is a free talk, so please come along if you love the work of J.R.R. Tolkien and you want to delve a little deeper. Not to be missed.

An autumn exploration through movement and poetry

with Sara Hunt

Discover Eurythmy through creative movement and poetry, working with rhythm, sound and gesture together with simple choreographed forms. Against the backdrop of the changing seasons we will experience how movement can deepen and enrich the spoken word.

Open to everyone

No previous experience needed

Join us for one session or several throughout the term.

Wear comfortable clothing and soft-soled shoes.

Sara Hunt trained in Eurythmy at West Midlands Eurythmy and completed a Masters in Eurythmy Education at Alanus University. With many years’ experience teaching in Steiner schools and working with adults in health and fitness, her approach brings together movement, imagination and wellbeing. She enjoys making Eurythmy accessible and relevant, creating opportunities for people to experience movement as a source of creativity, connection and vitality.

£10 per session · £8 concession

Back to Back with Frida Kahlo - Meeting Pain through Art, Celebrating Creativity

Storytelling, Poetry, Painting and Mindfulness

Saturday 3 October 10am - 5pm

A day of artistic workshops, sharing and conversation

‘To be an artist is to believe in life.’ — Frida Kahlo

The workshops will be interwoven throughout the day, with opportunities to move between poetry, mindfulness and painting, alongside time for sharing, reflection and conversation. The day will unfold gently, allowing the different creative practices to inform and enrich one another.

Exploring Speaking Poetry with Melody Grove, who trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama, where she won the James Bridie Gold Medal for Acting. Olivier nominated for her role of Queen Isabella with Mark Rylance and Iestyn Davies in “Farinelli and the King”, Melody brings generosity, depth and kindness to her art form. She knows the pain of spinal injury, and how uplifting working through the spoken word and gentle movement can be. Please bring a beloved poem or quotes by Frida Kahlo to work with.

Mindfulness with Tamzin Muir, a former lawyer, mindfulness teacher and leadership coach who has spent many years exploring how our relationship with thoughts, emotions and physical sensations shapes our experience. Bringing warmth, humour and a grounding in neuroscience, she will explore how mindfulness can help us relate to pain with more awareness, kindness and ease.

Painting with Ilona Pimbert, who studied at Chelsea and St Martins School of Art and has been painting and printmaking regularly at Artichoke Print Workshop in London. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, most recently at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2026. Inspired by Frida Kahlo’s relationship with painting as an extension of everyday life - a space to create beauty, freedom and another world amidst pain - Ilona will invite participants to explore painting as a way of connecting with colour, creativity and their own inner worlds.

Where Did All This Come From?

The architecture of Rudolf Steiner House

A talk by architects Nic Pople and Richard Coleman as part of OPEN HOUSE LONDON

Join us for this centenary talk celebrating 100 years of Rudolf Steiner House, the sole example of expressionist architecture in London.

The talk will look at the context in which the architect of Rudolf Steiner House, Montague Wheeler, was working in his practice at the time and what other architects were doing in London then. It was an extraordinarily unique approach to style. The focus will then turn to Rudolf Steiner’s influence on architecture emanating form his work in Dornach, Switzerland, including the two Goetheanum buildings leading to a review of how this influence spread over Europe and Scandinavia, positing the freeing and spiritualising of an approach to architectural design as one of Steiner’s many contributions to the cultural life.

Nic Pople is an architect based in Sussex. During his long career he has designed and had built three churches for The Christian Community and carried out renovation work at Rudolf Steiner House in 2008 and again in 2020. He also taught part time for 35 years in London architecture schools before retiring from teaching ten years ago in order to concentrate fully on the practice he runs with three young colleagues. He doesn’t like the term ‘Steiner Architecture’, preferring to see Steiner’s insights as important to the design process rather than as a style.

Richard Coleman is an architect soon to retire but still provides existing design teams with a consultancy role in respect of design, townscape and heritage advice. He contributed to the design of the Gherkin, several projects along the banks of the Thames, ten projects in Oxford Street and over 30 others in the west end. He has supported projects in Bath, Brighton, Dublin and Cork and has collaborated with many of the well-known architects in the UK. He follows Steiner’s indications in his work.

With the word ‘Apocalypse’ on many people’s lips today to describe the state of the world we live in, The Speech Ensemble is offering a 80-minute performance at the Marylebone Theatre of the original King James translation of The Apocalypse, both spoken and sung to original music. Immerse yourself in the searing imagery - the four riders of the Apocalypse, the battle between Michael and the Dragon - and allow the downfall of evil and the birth out of heaven of the New Jerusalem to come alive.
