ℹ️ About our assisted performances:
Chilled Performance ✨
A more casual approach to noise and movement in the auditorium. The performance itself is unchanged. Younger children and babes in arms are welcome at this performance.
British Sign Language interpreted performance ✨
Performances with integrated British Sign Language (BSL) interpretation where the interpreter is directed as part of the action onstage. In these performances the interpreter interacts with the actors onstage and will be in costume. On BSL productions we work with highly experienced integrated British Sign Language artists and Deaf consultants.
Relaxed Performance ✨
Specially adapted to create a more comfortable experience for audience members who may benefit from a relaxed approach to visiting My Neighbour Totoro. Adjustments are made to the lighting levels, and some louder sound effects are reduced. You are welcome to leave and re-enter the auditorium at any time, and relaxation areas are available outside the auditorium.
Audio Described performance ✨
Audio description (AD) is additional commentary that explains what’s happening on stage. The action of the play is described through a headset so that audiences requiring audio description can follow and experience what is happening at the same time as the rest of the audience.
Touch tours - ahead of all our audio described performances we also run touch tours where blind and partially sighted members of the audience can familiarise themselves with some of the productions physical elements (set pieces, props, and costumes) ahead of the performance.
Captioned performance ✨
Captioning is live subtitling for theatre. The character names and what they are saying are displayed on two caption screen on either side of the stage to ensure anyone can access the screens if they wish. The subtitles run in real time as the lines are being said, alongside mentioning any sound effects.
