Don’t miss our open studios event this weekend! Join us on Friday 12 from 5pm (doors at 6pm) and Saturday and Sunday from 2pm.

We’d like to invite you to explore our studios in South Tottenham. Visitors can go behind the work and meet art makers in their creative spaces.

This year will also see the return of the children’s butterfly trail, with prizes for those that find them all and a £500 art raffle.

Gavin Maughfling is a painter, working in oils to explore the psychology of space, colour and gesture within interpersonal relationships, and he also makes films.

🔹 What’s your favourite medium to work with?
Oil paint on canvas.

🔹 What’s your biggest creative achievement?
I can’t choose one! - many  creative ventures including exhibitions, curating and teaching, all of which are linked in some way. I am very proud of the two major shows I co-curated with Suzanne de Emmony featuring artists in Singapore and London; some of my own solo exhibitions including the most recent one at Bermondsey Project Space, and my most recent set design commission.

🔹 What does a typical day in the studio look like for you?
I cycle from home, unlock my space, get changed into messy painting clothes, take a look at what I left behind the day before, and then start work. After that it’s pretty much work all the way through until it’s time to clean up and go home. Sometimes if I need to take a break to think through things I’ll go downstairs to Idris’s for a strong coffee.

🔹 Do you have any upcoming projects or events that we should look out for?
I was recently commissioned to design and paint the sets for a new dance work by Stpehen Pelton, which will be premiering at the O Plus Festival in the States in October. It will be shown in London too at a later date.
